George Will: Sexual assault victims enjoy ‘coveted status’ on college campuses

In a column published in both the Washington Post and New York Post, Fox News contributor George Will dismissed claims of college sexual assault –using ‘scare quotes’ around the term– while stating students see victimhood as a “coveted status.”

Writing that college administrators are being “educated by Washington,” Will writes, “they are learning that when they say campus victimizations are ubiquitous” they are promoting the idea that victimhood is “a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate.”

Relating the story of a Swarthmore coed who was coerced into sex after saying “no,” Will dismissed her claim of “sexual assault” claiming it was part of the “hookup culture, this cocktail of hormones, alcohol and the faux sophistication of today’s prolonged adolescence of especially privileged young adults.”

My thought was conservatives only seem to learn compassion/empathy through experiencing the effects of that which they advocate.

31. Will apparently doesn't think that "nonconsensual touching" should be sexual assault......
Mon Jun 9, 2014, 03:09 PM

"Will asserts that making the leap from “forcible sexual penetration” to “nonconsensual touching” is too broad of a definition for sexual assault,"

Apparently George is not aware that there are different degrees of sexual assault and that yes, non-consensual touching of breasts or genitals has been classified as sexual assault for a long time - this is nothing new, even if George happens to be ignorant about it.

Also George apparently thinks a husband cannot rape his wife based on his anecdote about the Swarthmore coed.

“They’d now decided — mutually, she thought — just to be friends. When he ended up falling asleep on her bed, she changed into pajamas and climbed in next to him. Soon, he was putting his arm around her and taking off her clothes. ‘I basically said, “No, I don’t want to have sex with you.” And then he said, “OK, that’s fine” and stopped..?.?. And then he started again a few minutes later, taking off my panties, taking off his boxers. I just kind of laid there and didn’t do anything — I had already said no. I was just tired and wanted to go to bed. I let him finish. I pulled my panties back on and went to sleep.’”

Six weeks later, the woman reported that she had been raped. Now the Obama administration is riding to the rescue of “sexual assault” victims…

In other words, in Will's tiny little mind, when the coed got into the bed she was consenting to sex with him even though she told him straight out she did not want to have sex.

One can only hope that Will's wife straightens the little prick out on this one.
