One of the oddest things in this case is the resounding silence of Zimmerman's wife. Why hasn't she said anything in support of her husband? Could it be that Zimmerman went out looking to vent his anger after a quarrel with his wife?

(708 posts)People accused of crimes do not have spouses speak up for them all the time. There is nothing in the world wrong with that woman not wanting a bunch of knee-jerk reporters out there ruining her life.

(12,704 posts)she can speak to his state of mind and his character. She doesn't need to go on TV she can do an interview with a print journalist.

(8,556 posts)Here's are my guesses, all of which are just speculation:
She isn't his brother, friend, or father. Different people have different ways of doing things. Perhaps she's not somebody who enjoys being the center of attention. There are plenty of people out there who shy away from that type of thing, even when the stakes aren't so high.
Perhaps they are having problems and this incident has exacerbated them. It's not unusual for stress to undermine a relationship.
I think the most likely reason is that she just doesn't feel it's safe to do so. Unlike these other men, she lives with George. Perhaps she feels like her and her husband's security could be compromised if either of them does anything public at all, even with the cover of anonymity. Remember that the family probably believes that the media is completely biased against them. So from their perspective, trusting anybody in the MSM might not be worth the risk.

(95,337 posts)perhaps she has enough smarts to know to keep her mouth shut. Clearly anyone in the Zimmerman gene pool doesnt' have that kind of common sense!

(53,661 posts)Bad one would be supporting his actions because she needs financial support from his family.
Upward economic mobility and education invariably leads to women and minorities getting uppity.
It's unfortunate that the only window we have into this troubled man's life is the killing of Martin. His entire life appears to have been chaotic.
I'm also speculating, wildly as you are, about this woman.
Most women who are independent and aren't suffering from abuse would not stay long with such an unstable person as Zimmerman is. His arrest record shows that something is seriously wrong with him, there is a pattern of being violent and out of control. Not healthy by any stretch of the imagination.
Playing the devil's advocate for a few moments and a few questions I'd like to see speculation on:
What if his life was not that of a privileged or protected man, but of a less connected man of any color?
Would he have been put into voluntary or involuntary psychiatric care, jail or prison?
Has Zimmerman ever received mental health care?
If he had, was he on prescription drugs while running around loose with a gun?
If his family rejected that option to get his life in order, are they are not doing damage control for their benefit?
Some of those aren't related to your OP, but anyway, I'm curious as to how people think about it. The first questions I have an opinion upon, but would like to hear others' opinion about how this came about.

(53,661 posts)But why should she be pilloried for not going on TV, hidden or not? No one has submit to media frenzy.
The media is only doing this to feed teabagger insanity and make money. All of these individuals are merely pawns to be used and discarded when the next event comes to light.
I don't think she needs to be interviewed. None of them need to be on the media, except the officials vested with the power to resolve this case. Such as Wolfinger, etc. They are the ones to hold responsible.
Focusing on lowhanging fruits on the tree takes the spotlight off official corruption, and shining sunlight on that is the only thing that will change things. Well, the media may start a dialogue on crime and perception, that is long overdue, too.

Any smart lawyer would advise her to keep quiet, no matter what she had to say.
In addition, given the level of "wild speculation" about her, her relationship with George, etc. without her showing herself, I'm sure she's been advised that its better for her to keep a low profile -- the speculation about her would only increase if she gets out in public.

(12,704 posts)think it's odd that reporters haven't tracked down anyone she knows to find out what her and Zimmerman's relationship is like.
