http://www.salon.com/2014/06/04/mens_rights_group_raises_25000_to_protect_them_from_feminists/
The letter does not say from whom the threats came, but the mens rights activists behind the conference are pretty sure they are from feminists. Because they like to blame feminists for pretty much everything. As Abby Ohlheiser at the Wire points out, A Voice For Mens homepage currently links to a petition to class feminism as a terrorist group.
Of course it's feminists!!!
Speakers at this fabulous confab include Warren Farrell, who infamously called date rape "exciting" and said it was the same as a man paying for a date without getting laid. Also speaking are advocates who describe battered women as "emotional terrorists", rightwing homophobes, etc.
The Southern Povery Law Center has described this crowd as " an underworld of misogynists, woman-haters whose fury goes well beyond criticism of the family court system, domestic violence laws, and false rape accusations."

(115,103 posts)Or are you just kneejerking as per usual?
Or do you think that all radical feminist conferences should be banned globally because of that one year when those speakers were at a conference in Ireland?
I notice that you're frothing at the mouth about stuff from 2012 but you conspicuously have jack shit to say about the MRAs in the OP. (Typical and telling.)
Considering they're pretty much joined at the hip... unless, are the Quakers MRAs now too???

(115,103 posts)That sad little petition full of lies doesn't prove that anyone at Radfems Respond deserved to be tarred with any guilt by association bullshit.
And still you have nothing to say about the men who are rape apologists and domestic violence apologists and who blame all of men's problems on feminists.
opiate69
(10,129 posts)And to be clear, since you don't seem to get it, I asked if they were MRAs now, because your posting history has made it clear that you believe that anybody who disagrees with your cadre of radfem goobers must, de facto, be an MRA. Simple, no?
And, is that a bit of froth I'm seeing there?
redqueen
(115,103 posts)The petition does have white a few outright lies in it. Not that you seem to care. Anything goes in the effort to push the propaganda that says radical feminists are deserving of the dismissal and scorn that, in reality, MRAs have actually earned.
The point is, the places where these women try to meet are harassed.
Somehow the places where MRAs meet - MRAs, the actual hate group in this discussion - there is apparently no issue with them being allowed to meet.
opiate69
(10,129 posts)As for the rest, like I said before... I'm not losing any sleep over a bunch of transphobic bigoted shitheels being told they're not welcome somewhere. Maybe, if you want this MRA group to be denied use of the hotel for their meeting, writing your own damned petition, or even just contacting the hotel, might be more fruitful than coming here to DU and wistfully pretending your cause is somehow being unfairly treated.

(115,103 posts)Yeah, I'm just gonna stop wasting my time now.
I'll be generous and help you out. See if you can find the conference organizers on this handy list:

(115,103 posts)"In the name of equality and fairness, I am proclaiming October to be Bash a Violent Bitch Month.
Id like to make it the objective for the remainder of this month, and all the Octobers that follow, for men who are being attacked and physically abused by women to beat the living shit out of them. I dont mean subdue them, or deliver an open handed pop on the face to get them to settle down. I mean literally to grab them by the hair and smack their face against the wall till the smugness of beating on someone because you know they wont fight back drains from their nose with a few million red corpuscles.
And then make them clean up the mess.
Now, am I serious about this?
No. Not because its wrong. Its not wrong. Every one should have the right to defend themselves.
But it isnt worth the time behind bars or the abuse of anger management training that men must endure if they are uppity enough to defend themselves from female attackers."
"I have ideas about women who spend evenings in bars hustling men for drinks, playing on their sexual desires
And the women who drink and make out, doing everything short of sex with men all evening, and then go to his apartment at 2:00 a.m.. Sometimes both of these women end up being the victims of rape.
But are these women asking to get raped?
In the most severe and emphatic terms possible the answer is NO, THEY ARE NOT ASKING TO GET RAPED.
They are freaking begging for it.
Damn near demanding it.
And all the outraged PC demands to get huffy and point out how nothing justifies or excuses rape wont change the fact that there are a lot of women who get pummeled and pumped because they are stupid (and often arrogant) enough to walk though life with the equivalent of a IM A STUPID, CONNIVING BITCH PLEASE RAPE ME neon sign glowing above their empty little narcissistic heads."
"Should I be called to sit on a jury for a rape trial, I vow publicly to vote not guilty, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that the charges are true."
"No, Im not making this up. Here are the strange, threatening remarks he addressed to an opponent of his Register-Her website (on which, more below).
Do you think I am going to stop?
Its a serious question, because the answer to that question
should inform you of what will work for you or not work for you in dealing with me.
And the answer is, of course, no, I am not going to stop. You see, I find you, as a feminist, to be a loathsome, vile piece of human garbage. I find you so pernicious and repugnant that the idea of fucking your shit up gives me an erection."
"Progress for men will not be gained by debate, reason or typical channels of grievance available to segments of the population that the world actually gives a damn about. The progress we need will only be realized by inflicting enough pain on the agents of hate, in public view, that it literally shocks society out of its current coma."
opiate69
(10,129 posts)But then, a person could easily go mine certain websites and find all manner of equally repugnant quotes by some of your dear old friends, couldn't they? Or perhaps at some sites you used to link to in your signature line? Wouldn't that be just DUckie?
redqueen
(115,103 posts)How telling that you didn't bother to look. I read your random nonsense links. Thats how I know they were either random or mostly lies.
How telling that you think context could change anything about the quotes from the organizer of this conference.
How telling that you STILL have NOTHING to say about the FACT that the organizer of this conference said that shit, yet is allowed to hold his little Men's Rape Apologists conference at the hotel.
Nope, you're still busy catapulting that 'all Radfems are bigots!' bullshit.
You are completely transparent.
opiate69
(10,129 posts)And, since you seem to be unable to understand, and since you have not bothered to link back to the source, we have no idea if those posts (which I reiterate, are fucking repugnant) were met with cheers or the backlash they deserve. That's what I mean by context. And if you were a fraction of the educator you like to believe you are, you would have been able to figure that out on your own. And, the fact that the Radfem movement still gladly welcomes such bigoted shitheels as Gail Dines, Cathy Brennan and Sheila Jeffreys, they indeed are a bigk heaping, steaming pile of bigots.
(or, insert "gander/goose" snark here, given your eternal attempt to smear any disagreement with your ideology as "MRA!!!!"" And your incessant attempts at falsely claiming that "MRA=HateGroupZOMG" Which is kinda what I'm doing here to your particular sacred cow. Capice?)

(22,165 posts)From the Detroit PD:
Officer Adam Madera, a Detroit police spokesman, confirmed hotel officials recently contacted the department about hiring off-duty officers who work in the Secondary Employment program. The program was established by the city in 2011 and allows uniformed off-duty officers to moonlight as security guards.
We provided them with information about the program, but other than that, we havent received any word about threats, he said.

(42,020 posts)Here's a cool thing about Detroit, well-- with a little help.
100 serial rapists identified after rape kits from Detroit Crime Lab are finally processed
Hargitay joined Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy to announce legislation that will soon be introduced to state lawmakers that is aimed at setting guidelines and deadlines for rape kits tests to be processed.
"Testing rape kits is vital for keeping rapists off the street," said Hargitay during Monday's press conference.
Over 11,000 sexual assault kits, some dating back to the 1980's, were found abandoned in a Detroit Police storage facility back in 2009.
Not long after the rape kits were discovered, Worthy pushed to start the processing with Michigan State Police.
