the Boeing 314 flying boat! It was a couple years later than the Martin but much prettier. That was a flying hotel. When it landed in New York on its maiden European flight, Mayor La Guardia welcomed it and you could see the crew stuffing bags of mail into it for the first air mail to Europe. A great sight to see.

for the video. My dad was on that flight as a rep from Boeing (34 y.o. engineer). He had a scrap book that had pictures, the programs, and menus from each landing in Europe. He wasn't much of a talker so that is all we knew about it.
He went on to military aircraft ending with the KC-135 but the 314 was his favorite.
