(226 posts)that if Congress repeals the 2006(?) law requiring that the USPS fund their health benefits for the next 75 years in the next 10 years there would not be a short fall in the USPS budget.
And that UPS does not deliver to PO boxes and Rural Rout addresses which means that the USPS will need to continue to deliver to these high cost addresses. By law the USPS must deliver to every address each delivery day. Also, consider the profit margins needed by UPS will increase postage rates beyond what the USPS charges. This is just another attempt to privatize another government service that works.

(16,254 posts)I thought I knew most of the tricks they had pulled to privatize the USPS, but some passed under the radar.
By the time the Repugs get done privatizing everything, we won't even know this country. Our incomes will be rock bottom and the prices will go sky high. We will totally lose control of our educational system, mail system, prison systems, healthcare...on and on and on.
We really need to hit this and concentrate on helping these people. I sell on-line and I can't even imagine how high the shipping costs will go once the USPS is no longer in business. They are already ridiculous with all the surcharges for rural deliveries...at least with FedEx. I don't ship via UPS.
Not only will the cost go up, the service will be harmed, unemployment will climb dramatically, jobs that could go to vets will be a thing of the past. They mentioned that if the USPS was allowed to discontinue that pre-funding of retirements/healthcare, one of the improvements would be new fleets of vehicles that were green...electric/lp, which would create untold jobs in the automotive industry and significantly reduce money spent on gas/oil. Oops...that would be a no-no for the oil companies.
Kicking to keep this alive.
