Two similar scenarios, two completely different reactions.

(34,648 posts)Where are you getting your info?
Do you realize that the video is not about America?
Please provide a link to your stats. Otherwise i will know you made up that 40 percent claim.

(5,726 posts)Only in the area of sexual violence do the stats in the U.S. veer away from the 60/40 split. For psychological aggression, it's almost even between the genders.

(44,173 posts)But 60% is a bigger number than 40%.
AnalystInParadise
(1,832 posts)mean we ignore the smaller number? Or can we just direct 60% of our outrage towards abuse against women and 40% against abuse towards men?
TampaAnimusVortex
(785 posts)If you want equality between the genders, this comes with it. Wages and holding people responsible for their actions should be the same regardless of gender. Or were you just really wanting equality in areas that are cherry picked?

(32,056 posts)And do you know what "false equivalence" IS?
Guess what? When one statistic is disproportionate from the other, they are. not. equal.
TampaAnimusVortex
(785 posts)Implying I created a false equivalence isn't a logic argument. It's simply throwing word salad on a web page. Please try again with a logical argument that is both testable and falsifiable.
Again, referencing statistics without context isn't an argument. Which statement are you referring to in particular. What is the specific error? Where is your corroborating evidence?

(32,056 posts)See bluestateguy's original reply. The thing is, mainstream American culture accepts misogyny FAR more often than misandry.
And YOU are creating a word salad too.

(2,300 posts)That's why people rush in to "save" the woman in the first half of the video, and laugh at the man in the second half. You would get the exact same reaction if you could set up a hidden public video in that park of a cat attacking a small duck vs. a small duck attacking a cat. The first would bring rescuers for the duck - the second would have people grabbing their phones to make a YouTube video.
alp227
(32,056 posts)Gender roles have shoehorned men as self-reliant and strong and woman as dependent and needing to be saved (hence the "damsel in distress" trope).

(8,086 posts)Or 40% are males, which includes children?
What's the source of this statistic?

Oh I'm sorry, did I say fine gentleman? I meant entitled little creep who drank the MRA Kool-Aid.
Your OP is in poor taste.

(115,103 posts)People only take note of the men who murder women they claim to love when they kill a bunch at once.
Otherwise, it's just background noise. 3 women per day on average, just in the US. Background noise.

(13,324 posts)Violence, period, is an enormous human problem. And it's not purely physical by any means.
But on the other hand, women are far more likely than men to be seriously injured or killed by an intimate partner. Which is partly sexual dimorphism and partly cultural factors.
