Creepy Brighthouse adapters.

Everyone who has Brighthouse knows that you have to buy adapters for televisions in your home. I think it has to do with converting from analog to digital. What I can tell you however, is that the product is already being called an energy guzzler. The article for that is listed below.

However, I also found another creep factor about these adapters. We have one of the t.v.s facing the shower and my husband was working on the television before I jumped in to take a shower. When I stepped out, dripping wet, I noticed this small creepy looking camera thing staring right at me! It was hanging under the television. I was later told that it was the receiver for the remote. Not taking any chances, I applied some opaque tape to blind the damn thing.

When you consider that we don't have a choice in the matter, other than buying satellite dish, we are now stuck with something that not only is going in the wrong direction when you're talking about energy savings, but we now have to deal with another remote. You need one to turn the t.v. on, and the other to control the channels.

I don't see how this is progress.

Cable converters are electricity hogs, critics say

Noah Horowitz, senior scientist at Natural Resources Defense Council, said cable subscribers shouldn't have to crawl around after cords or power strips. Instead, the devices should be upgraded.

They are "the biggest vampire in the home," Horowitz said, using a reference for any electronic or appliance that consumes electricity even when not in use.

He said the signal controllers squander $2 billion worth of electricity annually.

"We need these boxes to sleep when we do and to incorporate the power-sipping technology already in place in our smartphones and tablets," Horowitz said.

Like everywhere else, we have no other options for cable. Just one regional monopoly--for cable

Consider other options. We have internet for news and non-video entertainment (too-slow a connection for vids), and the Netflix 3-disc option for movies. If your connection is faster, Amazon Prime streaming, Hulu, or Netflix streaming all work for some.

I refuse to pay for any service that shows ads ~20% of the time, and forces me to pay for channels that I do not want.

I could live with an a la carte of channel selections. I only see about a dozen of them on a regular basis. The problem is the family unit has diverse interests.

and scrolling messages.
One of the major factors in cutting the cord was networks using so much screen space for all sorts of distracting stuff and completely ruining concentration on whatever I was watching.

we dumped tvs, saved 80.00 a month.
dumped monthly billed cell, went to purchasing by the minute, saved 40.00 a month.

as you say, lots of other cordless options.
