A group of Christians say Wales's national flag is "demonic" and should be changed.
The Welsh Christian Party claims the red dragon on the nation's standard is at odds with the country's position as a Christian nation. It wants the flag to be replaced with the black and gold cross of St David.
Party leader the Rev George Hargreaves said a symbol of the devil should not "reign over Wales for another moment". He said: "Wales is the only country in history to have a red dragon on its national flag.
"This is the very symbol of the devil described in the Book of Revelation 12:3. This is nothing less than the sign of Satan, the devil, Lucifer, that ancient serpent who deceived Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden."

(15,429 posts)If they must replace it, they should thumb their noses at these idiots and put Baphomet on the flag.

(21,786 posts)I think it's basically these five people and the anti-abortion nutters who set up a table in the Cardiff city centre and shout at passers-by.
Most recent survey of church attendance in Wales is from 2007, which showed 6.7% of the population reporting attending church; compare that to a survey in the US that shows over 40% reporting weekly church attendance (and the least-churchgoing state having a rate of almost 4x that of Wales).

(26,276 posts)The flag incorporates the Red Dragon of Cadwallader, King of Gwynedd, along with the Tudor colours of green and white. It was used by Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485 after which it was carried in state to St Paul's Cathedral. The red dragon was then included in the Tudor royal arms to signify their Welsh descent. (Wiki)
I had to send an e-mail just now to my friends in Wales to tease them about this article.

(26,276 posts)So, after hundreds and HUNDREDS of years, this is suddenly an issue? Oh well, I guess people everywhere have the right to be paranoid and a little crazy. Fortunately, I come from one of those lager drinking, loud singing Welsh blood lines.

(6,452 posts)Yes, the only design allowed anywhere is a cross. Anything else is satanic.

(26,276 posts)And it's a big yellow cross on a black field. However, one version inserted the Dragon, in the right hand corner. Still wouldn't want the full Dragon replaced.

(26,276 posts)I love that story. When ever I get stressed, my sympathetic nerve response is to blotch out and turn bright red - I warn people it's just the Dragon awakening. The smart ones believe me.
