The Postal Service will dedicate its soon-to-be-released Harvey Milk stamp during a ceremony at the White House later this month, according to a White House announcement.
The event is scheduled to take place on May 22, the first day the Postal Service plans to issue the stamp commemorating one of the nations gay-rights pioneers.
Another ceremony will take place on May 28 in San Francisco.
Customers can pre-order the new stamp through the USPS Web site in order to receive it on the release date.
Milk won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, becoming one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States.

(12,165 posts)The stamp is a wonderful step in the right direction. Anything that gets people to think and learn about gay liberation history is a positive IMHO.
Stonewall was a turning point for the gay community. It was the moment when people in the shadows in NY said enough and fought the power structure. And won. It's only fitting that we get a federal holiday to recognize this milestone of human rights.
Thanks for posting this! Pre-order submitted.
