(124 posts)if he was able to push harder to save America with liberal ideas and programs such as single-payer, gay marriage, and Wall Street regulation.
He could be worse, but he could definitely be better, and we should push for him to be better.

(140 posts)... holding back the putrid heaps yearning to engulf us all. I would say he is doing damn good work! At least a stall in the headlong rightward tailspin we've been in for decades now was much needed. I hope it's given enough to where some clarity is shining through, as it's appearing to do (appearing - I do hope so).
intelligent, classy and down to earth
o.k. i definitely like the Obama ---- FAMILY (they all really have it well together)
I still wish one day we can have more than a professional politician, business major or legal professional running - at least for a congressional seat.

(9,958 posts)are all non-rationalized sources of power.
In all societies, the ways people gain access to and use material resources is governed by rules that are objective embodied in the institutional settings within which they live.
When rules allocate resources to people on the basis of ascriptive characteristics, and when use of those material resources is given by tradition rather than the result of a calculative weighing of the alternatives, then economic interactions take place under non-rationalized conditions.
When rules enable people to make precise calculations about alternative uses of those resources, and when they discipline people to use those resources in more rather than less efficient ways on the basis of those calculations, then those rules can be described as rationalized. This occurs when market relations have the most pervasive influence on economic interactions, i.e fully-developed capitalism.

(1,033 posts)Occasionally he disappoints. But most of the time, I'm extremely glad he's our president. He's the first president in my lifetime that I admire as a man and a leader.

(12,530 posts)Yay! I also like nuance, and I do recognize shades of gray in our complex world.
I also occasionally get all giddy about other things that are also obvious and pointless to bring up in what is supposed to be an adult discussion, and not a device to try to elicit alertable material. For example, I just had the thought, "Zippety Do Dah! Punctuation marks can be used to end a sentence". And see right there? They sure can.
But yes, I personally do like Barack Obama, and his family too.
