1. Why do people write blog posts on twitter?

If you have something to say at length, saying it one halting sentence at a time is a tedious way to do it.

2. Full statement

http://www.twitlonger.com/show/gnlt4t

My full statement:
I'd like to apologize to my viewers and my staff for the failure of Current TV.
Editorially, Countdown had never been better. But for more than a year I have been imploring Al Gore and Joel Hyatt to resolve our issues internally, while I've been not publicizing my complaints, and keeping the show alive for the sake of its loyal viewers and even more loyal staff. Nevertheless, Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt, instead of abiding by their promises and obligations and investing in a quality news program, finally thought it was more economical to try to get out of my contract.
It goes almost without saying that the claims against me implied in Current's statement are untrue and will be proved so in the legal actions I will be filing against them presently. To understand Mr. Hyatt’s “values of respect, openness, collegiality and loyalty,” I encourage you to read of a previous occasion Mr. Hyatt found himself in court for having unjustly fired an employee. That employee’s name was Clarence B. Cain. http://nyti.ms/HueZsa
In due course, the truth of the ethics of Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt will come out. For now, it is important only to again acknowledge that joining them was a sincere and well-intentioned gesture on my part, but in retrospect a foolish one. That lack of judgment is mine and mine alone, and I apologize again for it.

about this abrupt dismissal. In the beginning, I thought (based on the title he was given by Current) that he would be instrumental in developing the network. I don't think they allowed him to do anything other than his show. I had high hopes for new shows he would help put in place, but I'm not impressed with The Young Turks or Jennifer Granholm. Stephanie and Bill are good on radio, but who wants to watch a radio show on TV? All their productions seem to be done on a shoestring.

Just my two cents.....

in developing new programming and providing technical support. Did you see the show he did by candlelight? Then be went to just a black background. I think studio inadequacies were a problem. I'm betting he kept pushing for a more integral role and better production and the Current owners were not willing to give him any power, despite promises made at the onset.

No doubt KO is a high maintenance personality, but that was no secret when they hired him.

Keith was being paid $10 million dollars a year to do his show. First off, you'd think most people would at that price be willing to put up with the technical hurdles. For that matter, he could have dropped $5 million on building his own damn studio for the show, and still had a fortune left over.

I think they promised him a powerful role in the development of the network, then tried to limit his influence. Just the fact that the technical production quality did not improve indicates that they really weren't willing to commit the resources necessary for a first class network. Televising radio broadcasts is not going to bring them any acclaim.

If the TV simulcasts of the radio shows went away, I wouldn't miss them, as long as they were still on the radio. The evening lineup is no longer worth watching. I can't stand Cenk, and I have been disappointed in Jennifer Granholm's show. Not worth spending the time to find a working web stream.

Unfortunately over the last few years there's been a gradual decline from "insightful commentary" into it being "Keith knows best," both better than the network and knowing better than the professionals, the analysts, the elected representatives, the White House, everybody. Whatever other qualities he has, the guy does have a tremendously towering ego, and I can see exactly why that would be a problem for him at Current, particularly after getting such a staggering contract. Just look at how he reacted by walking out on the show when told he'd be cohosting the election coverage instead of running it all himself.

as he's been sitting in the dark for weeks now, but Eliot had a regular set on his first night.

I've tried to give Keith a benefit of doubt for some time now, but it appears there is enough blame to go around as these sort of problems have plagued Keith throughout his career.

I'll miss him, but can't imagine where he could go from here.

From what I saw happen at MSNBC and now at Current, it looks like Keith Olbermann's ego ran away with him.

Big egos thrive at Faux "news."

Not at Current or MSNBC.
