(28,979 posts)Pre-Raphaelite. The painting is that wicked woman Lucerzia Borghia grinding some poison herbs.

(63,912 posts)Did you know about Lebrun?
Generic Other
(28,979 posts)She was certainly an unusual figure who lived in very interesting times.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)The reason I ask is I had a boss once who claimed the same thing about Lebrun. Often.
Generic Other

(62,444 posts)So it's a trick question.
But instead of shameless hussies, they all look like painted ladies one way or t'other.
And one or another of 'em looks like they was painted by that French guy - de la Crotch or however you say it.

(28,979 posts)who was A. Schwarzenegger's dead Uncle's pet. In fact, he seems to have been the model for John the Baptist.
I cut up art for my collages. I should pay more attention to what I am misappropriating. I still go with Art Nouveau.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)You knew enough to know he was a Klimpt contemporary!

Generic Other

CTyankee
(63,912 posts)the guy was some kind of freak. Mitt woulda been scandalized...this guy painted her bare breasts, ACK! OMG!
But tell me, how did you get to G. Romney and this painting? Just wondering...
Generic Other
(28,979 posts)I watched the movie with Vivian Leigh. And the painting I had cut out of an art book. I didn't realize Romney painted her that often until I googled her name just now. But I remember reading about her "tableaus" where she posed in character in classical scenes in a most scandalous fashion for her day. She seems to have been beautiful and attracted men like moths to a flame.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)god, weren't Leigh and Olivier just beautiful?
And that final scene, where her voice over says "there was no 'then,' there was no 'after'. And she sinks to the floor...
Sad, wasn't it? She had his child but couldn't get anything for him in his will...
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)it's so cute...
Generic Other
(28,979 posts)Unfortunately, I have no clue. Except "a shameless hussy." Helen of Troy maybe.
Generic Other
(28,979 posts)Now that's just a stupid guess.

(39,961 posts)But it looks like Reubens. I couldn't tell you who she is, though, or say for certain it was Reubens.
I was reading a piece about the evolution of appreciating the female form, and this looked a lot like some of the images.
