Democrats applaud Paul Ryan's endorsement of Mitt Romney

Democrats applaud Paul Ryan's endorsement of Mitt Romney

by Jed Lewison

I'm sure Mitt Romney is thrilled that Paul Ryan endorsed him this morning, but nobody is happier than the Obama re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

To celebrate, the DNC put out this new web video, featuring a new version of "That's Amore" tailored especially to Romney, Ryan, and their plan to end Medicare as we know it.

As we know, Republicans love Paul Ryan because he wants to undo the New Deal, and Romney's support of Ryan's agenda is helping him in Ryan's home state of Wisconsin—among Republicans. A new NBC/Marist survey shows Romney with a 7-point lead over Rick Santorum ahead of Tuesday's primary, 40-33.

But while Ryan's plans are popular among Republicans, everybody else hates them. Despite his lead over Santorum, Romney trails President Obama according to the same poll—and he trails badly, by 17-point margin, 52-35. So although Romney might be happy to have Ryan's support now, once the primary is over, he's going to need to figure out how to use that Etch-A-Sketch of his without anybody noticing, or he's going to flame out big in November.

...just wait for the Obama/Romney debates, and their aftermath.

Break out the popcorn, and the intoxicating beverage of your choice for the inevitable drinking games. If you think it's good now (witness the laughing emoticon in the main message), we ain't seen nothin' yet.

Since she's his atheist, serial-killer loving heroine, that would show the kind of society Romney wants by pairing his ideas of governance with libertarians. Let the feathers fly.

A case needs to be made to ask voters if they really want to follow that model which creates aristocracy. People really need to know what they've voting for.

I don't know if the Obama campaign is willing to go negative. He didn't do it in 2008. But after fighting these guys for almost 4 years, it may be time.

The Randian Libertarians running the GOP now only reflect what more realistic Republicans had to submit to when they were faced with progressive Democratic majorities everywhere they went, from state houses to legislatures and upward. The battle is local, what we see playing out in D. C. is a reflection of apathy and letting these guys control the agenda.

No Democrat should ever be deluded into thinking any Republican supports any social safety net since it's at odds with the business model. To have a 'hard-working and thrifty working class' you have to hold the whip of homelessness, starvation, social stigma and personal endangerment from your fellows in their minds all the time with your media shills. Survival mode, kill or be killed, run to the powerful fascists for protection. This is pretty much the reality that's been sold to us.

Progressives should remember that no matter how much is flung at him, Obama is not going to let them privatize Social Security, and this is why they've hated him like no other POTUS since FDR. It's not just his being black, it's that he might have learned along the way that we are all together.

He says that often, 'let's all pull together.' This is the heart of socialism. But liberals better learn he can't do it all by himself and that their vote for POTUS isn't all that's needed to keep this country from going to hell. Gotta fight this out locally and get Democratic majorities in the government. Or kiss it all goodbye.
