Anti-gay fervor in Uganda hurts region’s AIDS projects

Uganda’s new anti-gay law has laid the groundwork for crackdowns by police and government officials that have begun to curtail scientific research on HIV/AIDS in Uganda and in other parts of East Africa.

AIDS fighters end up working in the dark if they lack research analyzing and exploring ways to improve anti-AIDS programs for gay men, men who have sex with men (MSM) and trans individuals. As a result, HIV prevention programs are less effective among those populations and, from them, further HIV infection can spread to the wider population.

. . . One was a survey that was to be run jointly by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control with Makerere University. It was to estimate the populations of high-risk groups in rural areas, including gays and MSM. The other research project was to be sponsored by the U.S. National Institutes of Health to measure MSM’s and gays’ access to HIV prevention and health care services. Without this research, Ugandans and likely other Africans, can expect questionable quality of service delivered to gay men, MSM and trans individuals.

This is from the Erasing 76 Crimes, who are doing a good job gathering news stories. I do wonder if perhaps one of the reasons that the two programs were cancelled is that, once information was gathered on the "populations of high-risk groups," that information could be seized by the Government of Uganda and used to round people up.

Very troubling at any rate; the slow down on AIDS research and treatment in Africa could have very long term implications.

the anti gay laws, calling on parents to turn in their gay children. Pope Francis says nothing at all as his Bishops call for blood in the streets. They all own this, and pretending otherwise is harmful to those who are targeted by this utter bullshit from all Christian scets in Uganda and in Nigeria.

Opposing these laws. Fr. Anthony Musaala. He is apparently currently suspended for complaining of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church there.

RCC and Anglican Churches are not involved in this. I understand it is uncomfortable for US and European members of those Churches but it should make them uncomfortable. I'm sick of the 'it's all American evangelicals' because that is simply false.
Francis says nothing while they hunt for gay people to murder. People like him because he talks about money a lot, and thus they don't care about being party to genocide. They stand with their man!
