Iraq War report 'will not be kind' to Blair, says West MP Murrison

The Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War will ‘not be very kind’ to former Prime Minister Tony Blair and its report findings should be published ‘as soon as possible’.

That was the view of senior West MP and defence minister Andrew Murrison, who said he was ‘not clear why’ the Chilcott report had not been published already.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, the South West Wiltshire MP and former Royal Navy doctor who served in Iraq as a reservist said Parliament had been ‘let down by an individual’, and added that he hoped any delays in publishing the findings of the inquiry were not down to pressure from the former Labour PM.

The Iraq inquiry was set up by Gordon Brown in 2009, and heard from Tony Blair on several occasions, but has still not published its findings with rumours in Westminster it will not reveal its assessment on why the UK joined the then-President Bush in the 2003 invasion of Iraq until after next year’s election.
