Elizabeth Warren says she is not a socialist, warns against G.O.P. take over of Senate

Elizabeth Warren says she is not a socialist, warns against G.O.P. take over of Senate

by HoundDog

<...>

Rebecca Kaplan, on CBS News, describes Elibabeth Warren's interview of Face the Nation Elizabeth Warren warns against a Republican takeover of the Senate." towards the end, she is asked if she is a socialist and she responds, "I don't know where they get that!"

She warns we do not want a Senate that works like our current House.

"What are they on now, is this their fiftieth vote to repeal Obamacare? That's not how you run a country. We have real issues we need to deal with: minimum wage, student loan debt, equal pay for equal work, a little accountability for the big financial institutions," Warren said in an interview on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday. ...

"This is a crisis that now is not just affecting families that get hurt by it, it's affecting the whole economy," she said. "I don't think the U.S. government should be making tens of billions of dollars in profits off the backs of our students, which is what the current student loan system is doing. And I think most Americans agree with me on that."

Warren was being interviewed about her new book "A Fighting Chance," which solidifies her reputation as a passionate and articulate champion of progressive causes.

"Washington works for anyone who can hire an army of lobbyists and lawyers. It just doesn't work for regular families," she said. "They've got the concentration of money and power that makes sure that every rule works for those who are rich. What we have on the other side, is we've only got two things. We've got our voices and we've got our votes. And we've got to make sure we get heard. That's the only way we ever get a level playing field."

She denied the book was a first step in a presidential bid and denied, once again, she is running for president in 2016, also saying it is too early to endorse Hillary Clinton or anyone else because we have too many other big issues on the table such as student loans and the minimum wage.

Although not mentioned in this article towards the end of the above video she is asked.

"Your critics say you are a socialist"

"I don't know where they get that"

She goes on to give a small speech about economic equality and justice.

She's a wonderful leader and we are lucky to have her representing our interests in the Senate.

Go Senator Elizabeth Warren.

is that if the Republicans get majority, they will continue with the judges and we end up with either a bunch of conservative judges or we end up with nothing because they won't accept Obama's nominees. We must ensure that the Republican don't get the majority.

We have the majority, but we can't get a candidate confirmed unless it's one they like. When they have the majority, our Senators go along with about anybody they come up with. What's wrong with this picture?

The never-ending "you'll HAVE to support MY candidate once they're the nominee, ha ha ha" attitude isn't going to inspire people to campaign for someone they don't want in the first place.

I'm a member of the Democratic Party, not a captive. Treating me like dogshit and dismissing my political concerns and then expecting me to give all for the Party when election season rolls around is foolhardy.

I tell people not to vote or even be part of the party if they feel that way .

But they mostly want attention so they get even more angry

Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand (who was my congresswoman, BTW ), but this is a pretty red district, had Republican representation for most of my life, so I'm planning to work for the Democratic candidate just as I worked for Kirsten Gillibrand's successor, Scott Murphy - who lost in 2010 to a teabagger.

I get that the racists and Nazis in the GOP have to hide and pretend they are not what they are, but why do we treat the socialist label the same way and therefore by our own actions stigmatize it?

That is not exactly a denial. Sounds more like an invite to a conversation.

Elizabeth Warren is a very intelligent women, and chooses here words carefully.

I agree that the word socialist does not describe a bad thing. I refuse to run from it. Anything that betters society as a whole is a goal worth achieving.

Cheers.

Not a denial, not an endorsement, the kind of halfway non-answer politicians give when they are ashamed of what they really represent but at the same time know they can't outright deny because their base will explode.

We let then win when we let them turn socialist into something we won't admit to.
