SOMERSWORTH, New Hampshire (Reuters) - Barack Obama and his Democratic allies in the Congress have grown more confident in recent months about their ability to use the president's signature healthcare law as a draw rather than a liability in this November's midterm elections.
Three races in New Hampshire illustrate the challenge, offering a test of whether Democrats can overcome voter skepticism about the 2010 Affordable Care Act. The law, aiming to expand health insurance coverage to millions more Americans, has come under sustained attack from Republicans.
The president has urged Democrats campaigning in the November 4 congressional elections not to run away from "Obamacare," but instead to "forcefully defend" it. Obama has said that a surge in enrollment shows the system is running smoothly now, after its disastrous debut last October.
New Hampshire, which is closely divided between Democrats and Republicans, is one of about 10 states where Republicans hope to make gains in order to pick up six seats they need to put the Democratic-led Senate under their control.

(4,835 posts)It seemed to work for the anti-Obamacare ads, why wouldn't it work for the pro-Obamacare stories.
How hard would it be to find people who benefitted from each of the components and let them tell their story. In fact it seems like there is a site that has a bunch of pro-Obamacare stories.

(18,635 posts)...about a child here who has a brain disorder. They flatly stated that since "Obamacare" was enacted, he can only get 30 minutes of therapy a week, down from one hour last year. They offered no details as to why this is, but the founding impression was clear.
That can't be good if I want to go out and argue in favor of the ACA. How do I counter this claim? The story hints that he is enrolled in "Obamacare", but I highly doubt that. Instead, I think they're claiming that his private insurance was affected by the law.
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - After a young, disabled boy lost therapy services under the Affordable Care Act, his mother decided to get creative in order to pay for her son's therapy.
Eight year old Cody, who was born without a structure that connects the two sides of the brain together called the Corpus Collosum, was adopted by his mom Lisa Denmeade in 2006. Cody has made progress with the help of therapies but those therapies have been cut since the Affordable Health Care Act or Obamacare was enacted.
"Before he used to get an hour of physical therapy a week plus speech and occupational therapy. Now he gets 30 minutes a week and he's only allowed 30 weeks out of a year, where as he went every week during the year," said his mother Lisa.
She tells us his horse riding therapy and many equipment costs are no longer covered. That's why she, her sister, and friend are making jewelry to help pay for Cody's health care needs.
"It effects us a great deal because it's all out of pocket and a lot of parents who have special needs children can't work full time, so it's a huge struggle," Lisa said.
In May Lisa Denmeade held a grand opening for Cody's creations. The shop is located at 650 Youngstown Poland Road in Struthers. Money made from jewelry sales will help buy a special tread mill, walker, and help pay for on going therapies Cody needs.

(18,635 posts)I wonder if all the mother claims is true, but if you go to the link and watch the video, the channel accepted her claims at face value and focused on her plight to raise money.
I know more than one person who have blamed every price increase, private insurance change, and Medicare denial on Obamacare since January.

(55,894 posts)To be sure, Obamacare faces unique challenges in New Hampshire. Just one insurance company in the small state offered insurance policies through the program this year, and the insurer doesn't cover healthcare in 10 of the state's 26 hospitals, deficits Shaheen and Shea-Porter have been working to fix.

In one hopeful sign for Democrats, enrollment in Obamacare in the state of 1.3 million people has reached 40,000 - double the number that had been expected.

Patrice Glynn, 54-year-old New Hampshire resident, is already convinced. Glynn, a diabetic, lived without health insurance for nine months after she lost her job and before she signed up on HealthCare.gov. "If it was so bad, would 40,000 people be on it?" she asked.

(116,464 posts)Does Scott Brown, Republican candidate for Senate, support New Hampshire's recent decision to expand Medicaid under Obamacare?
A Thursday report from the Boston Globe suggested Brown's position is a bit of a mystery, perhaps even to himself.
First, Brown had what sounded like kind words about the expansion, which should cover up to 58,000 residents after the state legislature approved it earlier this year.
You can incorporate any of the considerations for those people on Medicaid expansion into a plan that works for us, Brown said, according to the Globe, of his health policy plans.
But pressed on whether his position on Medicaid expansion, Brown "did not directly answer questions from a reporter about whether he supported or opposed the Medicaid expansion," the Globe reported. Scott then apparently made comments about the Obama administration's "trail of broken promises."
It's a dance that Republican candidates have become familiar with.

Copays on visits doubled
Mail order drugs for 3 months doubled
Total annual max 500 last year to 8500 this year
We are the shock troops - the ones paying the half trillion dollar gift to big insurance. I am a dedicated democratic voter but it's ridiculous to think there will be no blowback at all.

The tagline would be it would have been kinder to kill them this way.
