Good Grief! The stupid never stops. A post about Michael Sam.

So I was sitting at a local drinking establishment watching various sporting events on various TV's, including the draft. A few of us were sitting around discussing whether Michael Sam would get drafted or not and a guy asked me, "Do you want him on the Packers?" I replied, "I'm not sure the Packers need a player like him, but if they draft him, I don't care."
This guy then said he ,"Didn't want any f*** on his team!" I said, "I bet there is a gay guy or two on your team." He didn't say anything after that, especially since a few other guys were laughing at him. Shortly after that, Sam's name got called. The guy said, "Good thing I ain't a Rams fan." Everybody told him that it didn't matter, if he can play, he'll make it and if not, he won't. The guy then shut up (again) and left soon after. I hope he has a long and miserable life as a bigot. Me? I hope Sam makes it and has a good career.

3. I think we've all known that guy, unfortunately. But the tide is turning, more than ever now.

Decades of slow progress accelerating, it would seem.

Hopefully, Sam is rated on his abilities as a football player. I hope the Lambs shut down the media talking to and about him, too. His sexuality should be irrelevant.

8. Realistically, the odds he plays are about 50/50. The odds on a long career about 1 in 10.

That has nothing to do with Michael Sam's off-field life. It has everything to do with the fact that he was a projected 3/4 round pick who slipped to 7. And his slippage has as much to do with his poor showing at the combine as anything.

However, he's first. Somebody had to be first. Michael Sam - even if he doesn't play a down - will make this less of an issue for the next guy. Eventually, this won't be a conversation. Remember "Brian's Song"? Once, interracial dorming was a big deal in the NFL. Now, it's not a conversation. Michael Sam did sports a service and did a brave thing coming out.

By the way, he will be hazed. Maybe a bit less so because of the Incognito/Martin dust up, but he will be hazed. There's a great deal of contempt by veteran NFL players for people like Michael Sam.............................

......he's a rookie. The veteran players always make rookie's lives miserable. What did you think I meant?
