Charlie Crist said once again Tuesday that racism motivates many of President Obama's most hostile GOP adversaries.
It was partly for that reason that Crist, the former Republican governor of Florida who's now trying to reclaim his old job as a Democrat, broke with his former party.
I couldnt be consistent with myself and my core beliefs, and stay with a party that was so unfriendly toward the African-American president, Ill just go there, Crist told Fusion's Jorge Ramos. I was a Republican and I saw the activists and what they were doing, it was intolerable to me.

I think another part of it was that he was a Democrat, but not just a Democrat, an African-American, Crist, who's challenging Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R), said during an appearance on The Colbert Report.

(3,626 posts)sounds like a legit reason and his actions while still a republican to restore voting rights seems like legit evidence to me that his views on race haven't changed, but the republican party's treatment of race in his mind has.

(6,323 posts)Yes, everyone feels bad they were part of the republican party, but what were they thinking in the first place!? It's going to be one of those situations where we "hope" in the future he votes Democratic policy. He could also in the end be the reason we as a party go no where. This is a loop. A bad one at that. By the time he shows his colors it's to late. But hey we're all about "Trusting" politicians. Especially reformed Republicans.
