(14,576 posts)While I applaud the NBA's decision to fine and ban Sterling, and the movement on the part of other owners to force him to sell the Clippers, there's another lesson here:
The basketball players were all going to take the court, and then walk off when the ball was tossed. All of them. They were going to express solidarity around protesting the egregiously racist comments made by Sterling.
What would happen, I wonder, if ALL the service workers in the United States decided that they were tired of being exploited with low pay, bad working conditions, economic insecurity, and no benefits, and decided one day at a specific time to WALK AWAY? Do you think that would open some eyes? Maybe force some dialog and if we're lucky some change?
Oh, I know it seems a pipe dream, but like John Lennon said, "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us, and the world will live as one."

(2,672 posts)One day the populace is going to wake up and demand justice and true change, walking out and walking away is going to be the least of the PTB problems. I hope it is soon.
