i sat safely snug and dry and watched this on doppler. That storm SAT over Mobile and Pensecola for hours.

check out this story for some jaw dropping pics.
Freak S shaped storm unleashes biblical rain in Pensacola, Mobile
A rare and extreme weather pattern has produced obscene and devastating amounts of rainfall from Mobile, Alabama to Pensacola, Florida. Up to 2 feet of rain fell in the last 24 hours in isolated locations in this region.
Remarkably, these rainfall totals bested scores of moisture-laden tropical storms and hurricanes that have come through this region over the last century.
The impacts of the flash flooding have been devastating, as the flood waters have taken out bridges and formed destructive sink holes. The video and pictures are not to be believed

weather guy says, last night:
Outrageous amounts of lightning. ~9,000 strikes in the past 15 minutes. I can't imagine anyone is asleep.

(60,010 posts)Reading tweets from a guy who was trying to get home to Pensacola.
he was in a HUGE stalled traffic jam for 10 hours.
He did tweet a pic of his cousin's house, which showd a little girl in a floating kayack....in the living room of house!.
One of the reasons I do not live in Mobile anymore, btw....

But i'd much rather be on the boat than stuck in a car on the road.
I had to abandon my car twice during these kind of evil storms in New Orleans.
And I know Mobile is the same kind of target.

(14,549 posts)We are now living with the effects of climate change. Too late to avoid them now because we have done nothing in the last 42 years except freak out or deny. Going to get worse from here.
Hang in there dixiegrrrl. Hope you and yours are safe and dry!

(16,855 posts)but it wasn't nearly that much. Fortunately for us, it just passed on through when it hit us. It was a big front, though, so we had to deal with it for a good while. We had a lot of lightning, which was scary, but at least it didn't cause floods. Hope everybody over there got through it without too much damage.

(60,010 posts)He had all sorts of apps and gizmos, so he could film, and tgweet.
he said...bumper to bumper west bound traffic on Hwy. 90, tho not where.
shot pictures of RIVER of water flowing over 1-10, which is why everyone had to sit in their car during non-stop lightening and rain.
That will traumatize some kiddies, don'tcha know.

(16,855 posts)We were very lucky over here. It's going to take some time to repair all of that.
