They say the early bird gets the worm, but who the hell wants the worm in a Big Apple?
The data lab over at Fivethirtyeight crunched some numbers, and found out New Yorkers on average get to work later than any other metro area in the United States. According to the study, the median time to arrive at work is 8:24 a.m.

ETA: I work from home, so I roll in sometime around 9:30 or 10, after I drop my daughter off.

(81,870 posts)So that probably drives some of it. Also the commute is better after 8AM. And NY is in the eastern most time zone. Companies with west coast branches may want to come in later to be in line with their colleagues.
Construction workers probably keep these numbers artificially low. They get in before 7 and there's lots of them.

Nothing much happens at work until 9am anyway so it makes sense.
