Conservatives Ponder Sterling Trutherism: Did Magic Set Him Up?

CAITLIN MACNEAL – APRIL 29, 2014, 6:33 PM EDT

A few conservative pundits on Tuesday furthered a conspiracy theory that someone, possibly Magic Johnson, set up Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling's racist rant in order to buy the team.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh on his show on Tuesday had a lengthy discussion with a caller about such a theory. Limbaugh attributed the theory to the caller, but seemed convinced that it was a possibility.

"Whoever set this up is really good. They covered every base. They've got the media wrapped around their little finger," Limbaugh said.

"This is a fascinating theory. And, Neil, I'm glad that you held on through the break so I could dig deep, explore further," he continued "You know, you got it."

People arent pissed at Sterling for just what he said, they're pissed over a history of things he's said and done over decades starting with his racist rental policies and slumlord activities.

These RW'ers sure like picking one thing and only talking about that. Its like bundy, if you point out where he talks about "the negros" being better off picking cotton, they'll just repeat "RACE BAIT! RACE BAIT! HE WAS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT" ...

But can't we appreciate the imagination and ingenuity required to explain how someone stepping on his dick so publicly is really someone else's fault? Would you or I or any sane person thought to have blamed Magic Johnson for Sterling's racism? Not on your nelly. Sometimes I really miss the cutting-edge, outside-the-box (one might almost call it box-cutting) thinking of Bob Boudelang. Arrest my case!
