Seems To Me Advertiser Pressure Needs To Be Exerted On The Whole NBA & Not Just The Clippers.....

If my understanding is right - the owners need to vote to get this guy to sell off the team - either a 2/3rds or 3/4 vote would do it.

I heard they are concerned about the precedent that this might set - if they voted affirmatively and how it may come back to bite them in the future. So they might pull back from that drastic of an action.

So - he might be sanctioned and barred from games - but he still could remain the owner of the team. Even though advertisers are dropping him and the Clippers like a hot potato - I don't think that he'll be hurt that much financially in the long run.

Seems to me that the advertisers need to start putting the pressure on the NBA as a whole - so that the other owners would be hurt financially. If it hits their collective pocketbooks - then they might consider voting this guy out of the NBA.

I think I'm understanding this right - but am open to other interpretations - in case I missed some of the details.

What say you?

But, I think it will be tough to mobilize people to do that. I can't really boycott basketball anyway (I don't watch it) - but If I was a fan of, say, the Knicks, I don't know that I'd be eager to punish my team for something the owner of the Clippers said.

the NBA rules are secret. But things are leaking out and it seems reasonable that the owners could throw a bad guy out if they chose to. Other leagues can do that.

But, yeah, if he was stealing money or screwing with contracts it's an easy call. Throwing him out for exercising free speech, however disgusting, does set some precedent that could kick back at them in the future. Sports owners are often, ummm... eccentric and who knows who will be offended next year.

I don't feel sorry for the owners, but I do understand that sort of dilemma.
