(50,414 posts)try reading "I Will Bear Witness" by Victor Klemperer. A day by day account of being a secular Jewish intellectual in Dresden from the beginning to the end of the Nazi regime. He was spared death because he was married to an Aryan who suffered along with him. It's not about the horrors of the concentration and/or death camps, but the diary of a very flawed man struggling to stay alive.

(32,062 posts)an account of a German foster-girl coping with the effects of WWII (as her foster family kept a Jew hidden in the basement).
Also, Sophie Scholl and the White Rose Society and their attempts at resistance is brilliant - one of my favorites: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/rose.html
Anything by Elie Wiesel.
The accounts of the surviving Jews are very poignant, and seeing the effects on the Germans who resisted is also important.

(8,694 posts)for my mother, an innocent girl coming of age in Nazi occupied northern Norway, her home razed and burned, family scattered.
For my Dad, a US Army soldier, survived Normandy invasion to be captured by Germany, held as a P.O.W. These two victims of the Nazi horror, met and fell in love.
The legacy lives on, the scars remain, passed down in our DNA. The memory is there, will always be there.
