I just turned on the game and the first thing they showed was the entire LA Clippers team walking out to mid-court and pulling off their warm-up jerseys. They turned them inside out and dumped them in a pile in the middle of the court.
ABC Announcing "...so as not to have the word "Clippers" on their chest"
At tipoff just now their uniforms ( I have no idea if these are a regular alternative to the standard "Clippers" uniforms) just say "Los Angeles" in the normal cursive font that the team uses.
Good for them.

underpants
(182,824 posts)Single digit numbers can be higher than 5 - Pistol Pete with the Celtics was #7 and Rodman got to wear 91 with the Bulls. Olympic teams are 1-15 no exceptions.

A HERETIC I AM
(24,370 posts)Look....I'm sorry to use that word, but your post is reflective of a major misconception and one that I think is prevalent on DU.
Not every professional sports athlete lives in a mansion and not all of them live an "opulent lifestyle".
In fact I would venture to say that damned few of them live in the way you suggest or even imagine. How do I know this?
Because I was involved in the motor racing industry for 13 years and I have hauled cars for a number of pro athletes and the homes I have delivered to range from modest condos to your typical American suburban home.
Are there pro athletes that live in multi-million dollar homes? Sure. Of course.
Is it the majority of NBA players or NFL players or MLB players?
No. it isn't. Not by a long shot.
The average length of an NBA career is less than 5 years. Let them make all they can.
quinnox
(20,600 posts)$490,180 minimum NBA salary 2011-2012 with 0 years of experience. I'm sure they are having a tough time to make ends meet.
The point is they make a ton of more money than a huge percentage of the normal population. Even the ones who aren't the star players with huge contracts.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,370 posts)60% of NBA players are broke within 5 years of retirement.
That has to do in large part because they spend too lavishly while making the money they do and they get either crappy financial advice or none at all. So any "lavish" lifestyle is very often short lived.
The point that they make a shit ton of money is granted, but it isn't for 20 years, either. It's for 4 or 5 or a handful more at the most.
I am just trying to point out to you that your saying they live in mansions and live opulent lifestyles is inaccurate, OK?
And FWIW, your comment about 0 years of experience ignores what almost every single NBA player, and for that matter every pro athlete goes through before they get to that level. The vast majority worked their asses off for years in High School and College before they ever made a single penny.
If you think I'm defending their salaries, then yes, I am. But I also do not contribute to them by way of ticket purchases either. I have never been to an NBA game in my life.
quinnox
(20,600 posts)you seem to have a habit of defending wealth. To me, that is kind of strange to see on a site like DU. But maybe you are one of those guys who are in the upper percentages, I know we have some of them here.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,370 posts)I've made absolutely no secret over the years as to what I do for a living. I've been a truck driver most of my adult life.
So yeah. I'm a one percenter, to be sure.
What you have noticed is that I don't begrudge someone making a lot of money off their talent or ideas.
I'll tell you what I have noticed;
Entirely too many DU'ers are loose with the facts and don't give a fuck if they say something completely untrue, as long as it serves the purpose of their particular narrative.
"People that make more money than I deem appropriate suck the big one"
Yeah. I get it. We all get it. It's a running theme with many on this board and it makes us look dumb.
quinnox
(20,600 posts)but one last thing, I'm curious, why do you call yourself a "Heretic"? It is an unusual handle, so I was curious.
A HERETIC I AM

heretic
?
her·e·tic
[n. her-i-tik; adj. her-i-tik, huh-ret-ik]
noun
(From the Greek hairetikos, "able to choose", )
1.a professed believer who maintains religious opinions contrary to those accepted by his or her church or rejects doctrines prescribed by that church.
2.Roman Catholic Church . a baptized Roman Catholic who willfully and persistently rejects any article of faith.
3.anyone who does not conform to an established attitude, doctrine, or principle.
I've often read that the difference between a Heretic and a Heathen is a Heretic speaks up!
FWIW, I learned a long time ago on DU to pretty much keep my religious opinions to myself, however.
Other opinions? Well.....
Have a good evening, quinnox

(182,824 posts)Something like 53% of NFL players are broke/out of football money three years out of the league. That includes, I think, even "camp arms" and people signed as free agents who float around the league under various scenarios
That being said, without collective bargaining, most players would need off season jobs like Green Bay Packers in the 60's doing spokesman jobs or Hank Aaron making more money on "Home Run Derby" than from his baseball contract.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,370 posts)Give anyone that has absolutely no experience managing large sums of money, a salary of $5 mill a year for 5 years and see what happens. Just like most major lottery winners file for bankruptcy within 5 years of winning.
I don't begrudge them the money. Not one single bit. Just buy some long term bonds, for fucks sake! Then you'll still have some in 30 years!

V. Stiviano, the alleged girlfriend of controversial Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, is the defendant in a lawsuit brought against her by Sterlings...estranged wife...
The lawsuit was filed last month...It claims that Stiviano accepted gifts from Donald Sterling purchased with money jointly held by the Clippers owner and Rochelle Sterling without the wifes knowledge. Rochelle Sterling maintains that Stiviano persuaded her husband to lavish her with expensive gifts, including a 2012 Ferrari, two Bentleys and a 2013 Range Rover totaling more than $500,000.
Donald Sterling reportedly bought Stiviano a $1.8 million duplex in Los Angeles and forked over $240,000 in living expenses and upkeep. Stiviano holds the title for the property and has refused to surrender it...
