I monitor more than my fair share of right wing media (talk radio & Fox News) and the reaction while predictable still misses the mark. Their basic dodge is to either condemn and compare ("Yeah well about Al Sharpton" or condemn and ignore ("It's not about Bundy but about BLM over reach" .
News flash for conservatives: Making your base comfortable with their latent and/or blatant racism is not your pressing issuing at this point. If you as party want to win national elections making excuses or ignoring the the racists in your party is not a winning strategy. Everyone knows the difference in remarks of Ryan and Bundy can only be measured with a micrometer. Your problems can not fixed by retooling your dog whistles. Your problems is not that conservatives feel awkward after Bundy reveals his true feelings in public. It's that Blacks, Hispanics, women etc. aren't impressed with your racist/sexist product and the plausible deniability of your dog whistle politics.
Try convincing Blacks and Hispanics you're not racists instead of trying to convince yourselves.

convincing themselves is a much easier option
it's all about a feel good - not facts or reality based

Mainly because they have to deal with them on other matters and when one of these Conservatives does this crap it puts them in the dog house.

There's an old saying, "If you want to live like a Republican you vote for the Democrat."
