How did the NAACP ever fugging nominate Sterling for a lifetime award

This racist scumbag paid one of the largest fined in history for preventing African-Americans and Hispanics from renting his properties. He said he didn't rent to black people because they smelled and attracted vermin and THe LA NAACP nominated him for a lifetime award? Are they fugging serious? Is everything for sale these days including racial dignity?

They're now backpedaling faster than ReTHUGs and Fox. Disgraceful.

The entire executive should be forced to resign. It's frightening.

at those awards. Probably put up in his smoking room so they can light up cigars and have a good laugh at "black friends" at the NAACP.

I suspect it's because as the owner of a basketball team he's the kind of connection they could call up and have his players come to NAACP events and bring in the star power they are looking for (B Ball players).

Same reason rappers who push degrading memes and negative stereotypes are not condemned but embraced. The same dynamic of ownership often exists in the black music business.

From his perspective, it's like a get out of jail card. He's been sued many times for discrimination and racist behavior.

Next time he gets sued he could just bring in his lifetime achievement award to court and play that card.

Cynical really, from all sides.

California NAACP Chief Calls For Canceling An Award Honoring Clippers Owner After Latest Racist Comments

“There’s a cloud over him right now.”

California NAACP President Alice Huffman Saturday called on the group’s Los Angeles chapter to cancel a “lifetime achievement award” for Clippers owner Donald Sterling at a ceremony in Los Angeles next month, after Sterling was allegedly recorded making racist comments.

“There’s a cloud over him right now,” she told BuzzFeed. “I think it would be wise if the branch withdrew it’s honoring him and I have made that request, but have not got a response.”

...

Huffman, the California NAACP president, said she reached out to branch president Leon Jenkins, but has not yet heard back from him; he also didn’t respond to a call and email from BuzzFeed.

But they've been holding their nose and looking the other way on Sterling for a long time now, even giving him awards years ago when his housing discrimination was public knowlege.

This chapter needs a rude awakening.

I don't think this was just a mistake or a problem with this chapter. He probably gave a sizable donation and they gave him awards to hang on his wall. Its how these things work.

Its how Ivy league schools work, donate $500,000 to yale and your kid gets accepted.
