If someone bops you in the nose hard enough, doesn't the area under the eyes get bruised looking within a day or so?

(3,690 posts)Not always, I was coldcocked, square in the nose, by a muscular punk, when I couldnt see, totally blinded by the light, and not hostile, broke my nose. I bled, but no bruising.

(60,567 posts)There was never any bleeding. By the afternoon of 12/25 I had a full raccoon face mask of purple.
I went to my doctor on 12/26. As a precaution she sent me in for an MRI scan of my head. I got an electronic copy - nifty slice-up of my head.
I had no lasting damage AFAIK. It took about 8 weeks for the purple to go away.

(11,065 posts)Not even my own family members could tell I had any injury at all when they looked right up close at my face. The only way they could tell something was out of whack was when I held a pencil along the ridge so there was something to compare that revealed it was no longer entirely straight. X-rays however revealed a bad break where the visible damage was on the inside, hense why I couldn't breathe out of one side at all.
No two nose injuries are alike. Mine was a bad break - I couldn't breathe at all out of one side of my nose for the two years until I finally had the surgery to fix it. I was also warned that after the surgery I might get bruising around the eyes but I didn't... only a very slight yellowing under one eye after the surgery that you really had to look for to see. No swelling either. It was the aftermath right after the surgery that was a horror show of pain and blood for me... no wonder I put off having it done for two years. Makes me sick to my stomach now to remember that night in the hospital after the surgery. Blah. The next day I was fine though except for the antibiotics making me feel sick.
It's ridiculous to believe that every nose injury and even every nose break is exactly like every other just as it would be to assume every leg bone break or arm bone break is exactly like every other. They aren't of course - why should they be?

(20,582 posts)My first there was blood everywhere, black eyes and bruising everywhere. Second - nose pushed over, no swelling or bruising. Third, nothing to notice, really.
We took care of people with first-time broken noses who bled profusely, some who didn't bleed at all, some had back-eyes, some didn't. Imo, first-timers do usually bleed a lot. But it does vary.
