The Kochs AFP starts scrubbing its Bundy support
By Steve Benen
It was just two weeks ago that affiliates of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative political operation financed by Charles and David Koch, decided to extend support to Cliven Bundy. Despite the Nevada ranchers defiance of the law and court orders, and despite the fact that he denied the legitimacy of the United States government, AFP helped promote Bundys cause and mock the Bureau of Land Management for trying to enforce federal law.
Then Bundy started speculating about whether African Americans were better off as slaves, at which point the AFP apparently decided to join the stampede away from the radical Nevadan.
The instinct to run away is understandable, and its hard to blame AFP officials for waking up yesterday and wondering what in the world theyd gotten themselves into.
But the scrubbing is of limited utility given that screen-grabs and caches exist. Media Matters, for example, still has the content online that AFP is trying to take offline.
And all of this only serves to reinforce the question: what was the right thinking?

Americans for Prosperity Nevada, the state affiliate of the Koch Brothers-backed group, appears to have hastily deleted social media posts expressing support for Cliven Bundy, the renegade rancher who exposed himself as a racist in recent press conferences.
A tweet sent by AFP Nevada on April 10 urging followers to read more about the #BundyBattle, which involves Bundys refusal to pay fines for allowing his cattle to graze on public land, has been deleted. A Facebook graphic that the group posted criticizing the Bureau of Land Management for enforcing grazing laws against Bundy has similarly disappeared.

He lost the Kochs (at least to the point they're trying to hide their support)? Holy shit! Reposting a previous comment:
Clive Bundy is a deadbeat. First Bundy blames MLK for his racist comments, and now is daughter is trying to claim others are condemning him in order to deflect from his original debacle (http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024870831). No one forced this asshole to make a racist statement.
Let's be clear, this is a demented circus! These assholes came out from under their rock to make a scene, and they're being exposed for the delusional racists they are. Every statement is an attempt to pretend they're not all part of the same conservative movement that's destroying this country.

Cliven Bundy is a Big Fat Million Dollar Welfare Dead Beat!

Let's face it, the reason the Militia is ginned up about this isn't because of 'Merica, or 'FREEDUM', it has to do with decades long case of affluenza. Bundy is a 1 Percenter, so he's admired for his thieving from the public coffers, while Wilma would rot in H.E. Double Hockey Sticks after being riddled with 12 gauge buckshot.
That's a funny definition of patriotism you've got there, fella

Previous Steve Benen post:
Political figures who rallied to defend Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy must have known they were taking a risk. Indeed, much of the Republican establishment chose to do the exact opposite precisely because they were afraid to gamble on a man who doesnt recognize the legitimacy of the United States government.
But some prominent GOP officials rolled the dice anyway. Fox News and Glenn Beck celebrated the rancher as a hero, while U.S. senators like Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.) cheered Bundy on, calling him a patriot, even as he declared an ability to ignore laws and court orders he doesnt like.
Its become increasingly difficult to maintain this posture. For one thing, anyone relying on the threat of violence to act above the law hasnt earned the backing of anyone in the American mainstream. For another, some of the basic elements of Bundys claims now appear to be false.
<...>
Frankly, it was pretty obvious before that federal lawmakers like Rand Paul and Dean Heller were making a huge mistake rallying behind Bundy. When it comes to choosing a proper cause celebre, its best not to choose a man whos said, I dont recognize [the] United States government as even existing, and whose supporters appeared prepared for a confrontation a potentially violent confrontation with American law enforcement.

What does it say when U.S. Senators become apologists for lunatics who declare they don't recognize the U.S. government? Republicans are starting to realize they were dumbasses for jumping on this lunatic's bandwagon and are now seeking cover.

These Senators were elected to serve this government and follow it's constitution. These idiots should be forced to resign, for betraying our laws and for throwing their support behind a criminal.
That will indeed not wash off!
Thanks PS~
