Ohio woman accused of stealing toy from child's gravesite

ONTARIO, Ohio - Police in northern Ohio say they've charged a woman who was seen on a surveillance video taking a stuffed animal from a child's grave.

Ontario police say 54-year-old Frieda Kay Shade turned herself in Wednesday after the cemetery surveillance video was widely viewed on the Internet and TV news.

Shade told authorities that she took a stuffed toy duck from the grave of 14-month-old Hayden "Tank" Cole Sheridan on Saturday because a dog was running loose in the area, and she didn't want it to destroy the toy.

Her attorney said she'll plead not guilty May 8 to one count of theft, a first-degree misdemeanor.

From an earlier story the family got tired of things being stolen from the grave and set up the recorder.

my comment was more on the lack of proportionality of punishment in our society.

Somebody who would steal a stuffed animal from a child's grave probably has some strange psychological issues. It makes me sad more than anything, whereas the unpunished fleecing of millions of Americans makes me outraged.

.. for that matter. There are a lot of crimes which go unpunished, and I'm not excusing them. In this case this woman GOT WHAT SHE DESERVED!! And I honestly hope the judge throws the book on her.

I know it's dumb, but without knowing the particulars, I'm inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt.
