Tiny Terrorists?
Chances are, you've received the "pat-down" treatment from a TSA agent as you’ve made your way through airport security. If not, you’ve witnessed it or, at the very least, heard of the Transportation Security Agency taking its pat-down policy too far. Post 9/11, the TSA been scrutinized and ridiculed after agents are accused of unnecessarily harassing unsuspecting passengers, whether they’re elderly or wheelchair bound, and in this instance, too young? You be the judge.
This new video, that’s gone viral, shows TSA agents performing full body pat downs on two toddlers. Not surprisingly, the mother has to hold her 2-year-old son to keep him in place as he is obviously too young to comprehend what's going on, who this stranger is with the blue gloves, and why he's touching him. On the other hand, the older sister handles the hands-on process quite well, considering she's just 6.
The children’s father is the “cameraman” and uploaded the 1 minute, 26 second video to YouTube. At the time of writing this, it has received close to 155,000 views in just a few days. He says he is frequently targeted by the TSA because of his name. On the YouTube posting he’s listed only as “khanzahir100." Still, his wife can be heard asking, "do they do this all the time?"
The truth is TSA agents have the right to pat down children, however in 2011 the agency amended a policy to reduce this practice. The TSA website, in fact, says it "has modified screening procedures for children 12 and under that reduces the likelihood of a pat-down."
