WASHINGTON: With Indians and other Asian-Americans and Pacific-Islanders growing in number at a fast pace, people of colour will be in the majority in the US by mid-century, according to a new report.
They are also quickly reaching the critical mass needed to be politically relevant, says the report from the Centre for American Progress and AAPI Data on how the growth of this group will affect a variety of key policy areas from immigration and education to healthcare and the environment.
With the Indian-American population shooting up 76 per cent in the first 12 years of the 21st century, Indian-Americans numbering 3.34 million are already the third largest Asian community in the US, after people from China and the Philippines.
...
Chinese are still by far the largest group of Asian-American population with 4.1 million (22 per cent), Filipinos come next with 3.59 million (19 per cent) followed by Indians with 3.34 million (18 per cent) in the third place.

(2,273 posts)1. Seems like a good demographic to start courting.
I have not really seen a politicians reach out to these groups but they can be a solid voting block.

but people don't talk about it because it does not fit in with their bigoted bs.

In recent statistics, the University of California system said 36 percent of its in-state freshman admissions offers for fall 2014 are to Asian-American students, 29 percent are for Latino students, 27 percent are for white students and 4 percent of offers are to black students.
At some campuses, including UC San Diego and UC Irvine, Asian-American students accounted for more than 45 percent of admitted freshmen last year.
Hispanics have slightly overtaken whites as the largest ethnic group in California, although both groups represent about 39 percent of the population. Asian-Americans a population that includes Filipinos, Chinese, Indians, Japanese, Vietnamese, Laotians and others comprise about 13 percent. Blacks are less than 6 percent.
