The police report after the incident listed Trayvon Martin's full name, date of birth, and other info. So why did his body lie in the morgue as a John Doe for 3 days?
Also, they're showing a surveillance video of Zimmerman being taken out of the police car at the police station after the incident. There are no apparent injuries or blood, and no apparent grass stains.

Isn't he under the direction of the DOJ?

(79,302 posts)but so far as the morgue info, it's posted on here somewhere. I'll try to find it.

(28,795 posts)but in los angeles there is a logjam at the morgue. my daughter's body was kept for more than three days because they had to perform an autopsy. in fact we got it expedited on religious grounds, because she's jewish. even so it was 6 days before the funeral because i refused to have a funeral with an empty casket (though that offer was made).
Three police cars soon pulled up and a detective asked Tracy for a recent picture of his son. "I had one on my phone, so I showed it to him," Tracy says, his voice tightening. "He told me he was going to show me a photo and ask if it was my son. He pulled out a photo of Trayvon's dead body. And the nightmare began."
Stunned and devastated, Tracy called Trayvon's mother, Sybrina Fulton, from whom he's been divorced for several years.
"I couldn't believe what I was hearing; it just didn't seem real," recalls Fulton, her eyes filling with tears. "And finally I said, 'I need you to go and actually identify his body.' I needed to know if that was my baby, dead."

(62,325 posts)while still in shock, that they had to do an autopsy. We objected, did not want or need any further wounding of the body. We were told it was the law and we had no choice. They told us the body would be released after they had completed the autopsy. I believe it was about three days.
The law regarding the autopsy, which horrified us, we found out later was put in place by Insurance Corps. The purpose was to try to find alcohol or drugs in order to reduce the amount of any claims made in a lawsuit. I cannot describe the horror we felt that morning. It seemed like such an invasion and against our wishes. The law, I read later was 'controversial' but when an accident occurs on a public road, they have the law on their side and there is nothing you can do about it.
I am sorry about your daughter. There really are no words that are adequate when such a tragedy occurs.
barbtries
(28,795 posts)because bekah's death was a homicide, we knew and understood that there had to be an autopsy. i never knew that about the law being the idea of insurance companies. i'm sorry that the ordeal increased your suffering.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)We didn't know about the law either and I objected strongly when they called, at 7.AM the morning after the accident, but to no avail. I guess you are in shock anyhow when tragedies like this occur so it just seemed like a continuation of a nightmare in which we had lost control over everything.
Anyhow, take care of yourself and I all I can say is I wish these things did not happen to good people, or even not so good people.

(425 posts)evidence vs trying to come up with a 'good' story to tell everyone.
it's just another thing that stinks in this case, and makes it so frustrating to see play out, but at least the truth is seeming to come out, even if in dribs and drabs.
i suspect the justice dept. will keep on leaking this kinda damning evidence if the PD and local authorities don't start to cooperate.

(33,956 posts)the fact that they weren't brought in that night is very suspect.
But..there was a coverup. And the body was unattended in the morgue for 3 days.
There is NO DOUBT that bodily evidence was tampered with. I have NO faith in anything that comes out of this "investigation".

Trust me on this, the rain just makes it quite messy. In fact, a drunk, bleeding from the head in the midst of rain...just ask a close friend who is a field medic...suffice it to say keeping your uniform more or less clean can be tricky.

(157 posts)if he was actually injured. When are his lawyers going to release his medical records to clear his name instead of just making statements about what happened. The cover up is because his father is a judge. He may be a founding member of the "old boys club" in his district. What other reason can a clear thinking person come up with? And why would a "higher up" come to the station on the night of the murder?

(19,240 posts)Maybe they were trying to figure out how to fake hand injuries that would fool a post mortem and they realized it could not be done so they had to let the body go. Probably did drug tests on the body, too, while it was lying there. And finger printed and DNA'd it and searched the criminal data base. Anything to protect the judge's son.

(4,310 posts)after Officer Chris Serreno ( the cop that thought GZ was guilty as hell ) showed up at Tracy Martin's house to
identify Trayvon with a brutal picture, Trayvon remained in the morgue for a day or two longer.
Funeral homes will not always pick-up the body until they have been partially paid. Depending on
what they were requiring, the Martin family may not have had a that kind of money readily available.
It's a fucking crime what people are charged to bury their loved ones especially if they want a traditional
funeral. When you are burying your child you would sell a limb to make it as beautiful a service as possible.
Just say'in could account for the extra day or two.
