I found that kind of shit pathetic as soon as Bundy and his cohort of fuckwits decided to mention that they don't believe in a Federal Government.
It's the same as most Conservatives bowing their heads everytime someone starts praying to the great skywizard.
Maybe if they had of played Dixie and done this I could have at least believed the gesture was real.

(15,805 posts)That said, I live in cattle country and have a number of friends who dress like the guys in the photo and actually do ride horses in the course of doing their jobs. Some of their co-workers might agree with Bundy, but my friends are disgusted with the whole thing. Modern cowboys dress for the hard work they do and they don't live in Peter Pan World.

(12,958 posts)The irony of the picture is they claim the USA doesn't exist. They claim not to recognize the US government.

(60,010 posts)And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? he asked. They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And Ive often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didnt get no more freedom. They got less freedom.

If you don't believe that the federal government is legitimate, then you are not a patriot.
Oh, and if you espouse the belief that the federal government is not legitimate, then why on earth would you use the Constitution to make your arguments?
Oh, wait...morans.

(12,151 posts)The man is a crackpot. And possibly suffering from dementia, having heard the other things he's said in interviews. The fact that he's also a apparently nursing racism founded in equally off-balance reasoning isn't a shock.
Everyone pays grazing fees on land they don't own. Federal grazing fees are actually a subsidy, given they're far cheaper than typical fees. Bundy says he wants to pay Nevada instead, but Nevada doesn't own the land, and charges three times as much anyway. The U.S. government bought the land in question from Mexico, so if our government doesn't exist, he'll just need to pay his fees to a different country that owns the land he doesn't.
The real creepy here is the way conservative politics in the U.S. continues to try stir up the Bircher / militia types whenever a Democrat is in the White House, actively using the threat of violence against the federal government as a way to exert pressure. Last time we went down this road McVeigh blew up a building full of workers and a daycare.
What Republican leaders really need to apologize for is getting anywhere near the idea that a bunch of NRA-fetish loons in military gear can draw down on law enforcement over some COWS.
Oh, and lots of them are probably racists.
Hooray if this takes some wind out of their sails, but the next step will just for these goons to renounce racism, and leave in place the idea that they're the vanguard of a justified civil war to take back America from the American government.

(65,616 posts)you can be dumber than a box of rocks. You have to have a little smarts to ride a horse, beyond that...what do you expect from white supremacists hiding behind a gun, cowboy hat and stirrups? I mean besides total ironic idiocy?
They're defending a man that is a HUGE welfare cheat and thinks black people should be slaves, again. They're as stupid as he is and deserve all the scorn that he deserves. Not one ounce less.

(70,711 posts)First, the pic. It goes straight to the core of wingnuttiness: The Pharasaical focus on OUTWARD APPEARANCE and OUTWARD OBSERVANCE: How a piece of fabric (flag) or here a National Ditty is idolized in the material form (letter of the law) as opposed to the meaning (spirit of the law). And the pic says so much: Ah, all male, and how SENSTIVE the males are! And the outfits! They like to give their drag outfits a rotation, alternating their John Draftdodger WAYNE costume with their KKK white gowns. Oh, and isnt The Star Spangled Banner a FEDERAL thing?!
