Edward Hart, 8, faces two felony counts after an altercation with police and damage done inside a police vehicle, according to court documents.
I dont even think he did anything wrong in this case. stepfather Robert Bluhm said. Hes special need[s].
Edward, ran away on March 19 from the Hillside Learning and Behavior Center in Allegan where Edward Hart attends school, Bluhm said.
An Allegan police report lays out what happened from the responding officers perspective. A teacher and the principal chased after the 8-year-old, and a third teacher caught up with Edward at a party store, a block away off of M-40, the report said.
Hes ran away from the school before, Bluhm said. And hes made it to M- 40 before. But hes never made it as far as he did this time.
Police were called to help, and, according to the their report, school staff requested the officer drive Edward back to the school. When he was asked his name, Edward is said to have cursed at and assaulted the officer.
He has anger issues, said Bluhm. They know this. And theyre going to throw him in the back of a cop car all by himself.
The officer reproted that Edward broke the police camera in the back of the car. As a result, Edwared is charged with malicious destruction of police property and resisting and obstructing.

(19,458 posts)They CAN be violent, and a few were arrested for stealing a car. A few of the kids that age injured staff members, and they broke furniture and endangered others. Sorry, but when they broke the law, they were charged. Period. Parents with violent kids they say are disabled seem to think that they can just ship the kids off for someone else to deal with, then get upset when the kid gets in trouble. I've seen the damage kids like that can make. I guess the staff are supposed to allow a violent child to do whatever they want.

He broke a camera, damage $50 dollars and cursed the cop?

(15,318 posts)My, the internet is such a fascinating place. You meet such interesting people. Where are these places where 8 year olds steel cars on the regular. That must have been one heck of a place to work. No wonder a place like that had to call the cops and press charges. I'm sure such a place has churned out all kinds of progressives who think charging 8 year olds with felonies is a-okay! They're posting everywhere.

Seems a relatively recent phenomena. Something that occurred with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) movement of the 1980's.

(6,597 posts)People don't realize how violent and strong some can be, and yes even the younger ones. I don't know in this particular case but I do understand what you are saying.
God bless those who work with the disabled. It's a difficult job and it is important for others to remember that if their child was disabled, they wouldn't want them injured by another child who was out of control.

(24,721 posts)The prosecutor is judging an 8-year-old child as though he's an adult who flagrantly broke the law & needs to serve time for it. Perhaps the chief of police's voice of reason can make a difference.
