All I hear from the right/Kkk/tea party/GOP are hate Obama, hate liberals, hate minorities, hate Muslims, hate Jews, hate poor people, hate women etc.
No love coming from them, no love thy neighbor as thy self, no I'm my brothers keeper. The fox brain washed right wingers are seeping in a toxic stew of hate. They are like sock puppets mimicking hate. This Bundy dude hates America because he has to pay taxes like the rest of us. He needs to follow the advice people like him in the US used to say in the 60's , America love it or leave it. Bundy and his treasonous followers are enemies of America with all their hate.
Yesterday, I stopped 2 women in a store getting into a fight one Hispanic, one white over a line confusion. One accused the other of cutting in line.It was so petty I told them to stop it as it was Easter and a day of peace and love. They stopped fighting but both made racist overtone comments to each other before they shut up.
Hate is toxic, I'll take love any day and it's not exhausting either. Will the haters get tired anytime soon?

(2,810 posts)Excuse me, there's a gender war thread I want to get in on.
BlancheSplanchnik
(20,219 posts)Actually, the "gender war" issue could teach us ALL a lot about teaching peace. It could teach us a LOT about learning to listen to other perspectives, and practice controlling our angry impulses.
It can be a real opportunity to stop and think, and reflect.
I can only speak for myself, here, but I think the core of the problem demonstrates unwillingness or lack of skill to listen and respond respectfully to another person.
So, it's not about everyone sighing about too much hate in the world. Good to know, but then, we should be interested what to do about that... Myself, in My everyday life. And, of course, "WE" is really each one of us as an individual, repeatedly asking ourselves, "how can I improve myself?" (Because the only person we can change is ourselves.)
So, again--for myself, I think doing my best to listen and explain without hostility is my attempt to do something positive. That's what I personally try to do, anyway. Not "throwing the first stone", as they say.
I know I see good conversations here when men respond to women by saying things like, "Hmmm, that is a viewpoint I never experienced." and, "I see what you mean." Or, "I don't see what you mean--here is where I'm confused..."
oh well, that's enough out of me....your remark got me thinking out loud.

(2,795 posts)Anger and hate are easy emotions to feel. It's much harder to be happy, feel happy and appreciative and kind.
I think so many of these people have sad, empty lives. It's drudgery. They get up, go work for the man and never get ahead. They may have nothing to look forward to, everyday is the same and it's boring and blah. But when you have a whole host of media sources telling you to be angry and hateful, that person actually "feels" something. An emotion, though toxic, they still feel something as opposed to blah and nothing.

(36,514 posts)They're mad cuz they played by the rules & things didn't turn out like they were told they would. So someone like Limbaugh gets on the radio & says it's the brown people's fault, the feminazi's fault, the fags fault & he uses inflammatory language to rile the hate. There was an old Star Trek episode, the original, where a hate type entity took a hold of the Enterprise, feeding & spreading hate throughout the ship's crew. Limbaugh & his ilk are that entity & the haters are being played, while the 1% loot the country.

(10,745 posts)To be honest, personal prejudices, racist or otherwise, are something that can affect anybody(regardless of nationality or social status)), and it's something humans as a whole must confront. Hate never did the world any good, and I know that I try my best to be a good person every day of my life. Ultimately, I think the good people of the world WILL eventually win over the racists, whether they be David Duke or Louis Farrakhan, and all the other extremists, be they diehard Fundies like Pat Robertson, or Islamists like the Muslim Brotherhood, or militia wackos like Mr. Bundy, etc.
I DO have faith(if you can call it that) in humanity overall, and I'm not afraid to admit that.

(5,364 posts)From the hard-righters I know, you'd swear their goal is to beat their chests hating the left on their death bed.
I know a few, but my own father stands out and is unbelievably partisan; Everything, and I mean everything, is politics...and in such an unabashedly spiteful way. Unreal. Here's just a few examples:
- Hating of movies because an actor is "a left winger" or has a progressive theme ( ie: is not overtly pro-neocon )
- Liking shitty movies because of conservative actors or a conservative message, and pushing them on you.
- Suddenly disliking cars he liked because the company got a bail-out ( even though they repaid the $ )
- A sudden liking for big restaurant chains with draconian employee relations, and anti-ACA stances, even tough he knew/knows their food sucks.
- An equally sudden disliking of companies "too left wing", whether real or imagined. Some interesting cognitive dissonance here: He knows Costco is the better store and begrudgingly patronizes them but sneers at them for "being too left wing", while patronizing and singing the praises of Wal-Mart at every opportunity as he admires their business model.
- Despite not having attended church in the last 50 years, barring weddings/funerals, has suddenly become a churchgoer and worried about the US's "judeo-christian heritage". Even more ironic since he's always disliked Jewish people but now damn near worships Isreal in deference to hawkish anti-muslim foreign policy; as per the neocon playbook.
I've brought this up at times; how much expenditure of energy, how exhausting it must be, to frame EVERYthing politically, and act accordingly. They love it. Feel like they're fighting the good fight, and while I'm sure, despite their chest-beating, know they're demographic dinosaurs, seem energized with the feeling they're going down swinging.
There is no reaching these putzes. I'm thoroughly convinced. We just have to wait for biology to fix the situation.

(73,631 posts)Rationalizing from your own prospective isn't going to work.
They thrive on this type of hatred, as if they didn't have Obama, hate liberals, hate minorities, hate Muslims, hate Jews, hate poor people, hate women etc, they find someone else.
It's a never ending journey to hell for folks like that, especially whenever they allow others to dictate to them to direct their hatred against certain others.
Tsiyu
(18,186 posts)a lot of the folks who watch and listen to the hate are actually really loving people when they aren't discussing politics.
They help out their families and friends and they welcome all to their businesses. But they also do gossip when they get around a "safe" person, and they tend to believe misfortune in others is due to a fault in the others. Misfortune in their own lives is always the devil or the government's fault.
One on one you can reach them. But they are in a very comfortable place watching and listening to Hate Media, as their own parents often spewed this hate, and it is familiar to them.
One friend seems to be catching on - that the media try to divide people - and is amenable to discussions. But the level of FEAR in this person is, I believe, directly related to her level of love for FOX Noos.
Good on you for stopping the fight. People are on edge, and the media are doing their best to ramp that up. Each of us needs to try to do as you have done.

(42 posts)Right-wngers live on hate. It's who they are. And, yes, I will grant you that there is hate on the progressive side too. But I think most of our hate is directed at those who espouse cruel policies or are bigots in one form or another. The Right just hates people for who they are. In other words if you are gay, liberal, a minority, non-Christian, etc you are automatically hated. You're "the other".
And I agree that right-wingers live in a black & white world. No shades of grey for them! Christians---good! Muslims--bad! Whites---good! Blacks---bad! For some reason they seem think that if America was just made up of White, Christian, heterosexual, conservatives that America would be a paradise. It's stupid, but I firmly believe that is the case.
I have listened to talk radio and have watched Fox News ---as much of it as I could stand anyway---to see what the other side is saying. They always present "us vs them" scenarios. It's the "real" Americans against the welfare lovin', big government promoting, God-hating, unpatriotic, lazy "libtards" and their allies in the gay and minority community. Yep we are the ones who are destroying America and MUST be stopped at any cost! That's why the Right loves to talk about "2nd Amendment solutions" and civil war all the time. It's like they are itching to see blood on the streets while they enact their Rambo fantasies. It's actually pretty frightening when you read the blogs on conservative sites. The hate is palatable and they can't wait for the "revolution" to start. I have tried to talk some self to them but they immediately dismiss me and tell me how much I hate this country and should get the hell out. It's quite sad actually. They live in a toxic world of hate and promote violence. I can't imagine what it is like to be angry ALL the time.
Populist_Prole
(5,364 posts)All that anger just can't be healthy. It's downright unhealthy to the body, even if it makes them feel good.

(45,528 posts)Hateful people live truly miserable lives. The worst is when their hatred causes them to hurt someone else, which is often the case if they feel like they've been wronged somehow. Hurt people hurt people. Kudos to anyone who has the patience and love to deal with hateful people in a civil manner. I usually try to avoid them because it often leads to conflict.

(45,528 posts)Fear turns to anger, and anger turns to hate. It's all rooted in deep fears and insecurities, which also makes for a miserable life. Confident people are not usually so hateful.
