I am ALIVE... And I live in Texas

Last edited Tue Apr 15, 2014, 10:17 AM - Edit history (1)

...and I am benefited by the ACA (I don't make the big bucks, and it takes a lot of budgeting...but my life and my son's life are worth it)
...and I am actively campaigning for and financing Wendy 2014.
...and I know that ACA does not help everyone in my state, which is why Wendy 2014 is more important than imagined 2016 Presidential runs.

It's not a wagon, and I'm not circling it; I'm just stating the facts.

Rick Perry did this to Texas. As much as I disagree with wishy-washy Dems on many points, Rick Perry hates struggling Texans, and it's time to show the GOP the door in this state.

My blood pressure after a little under a week on maintenance meds (thanks HEB for supporting the ACA, and screw Walgreens): 145/95 (it hasn't been that low since Hector was a pup). My doctor fully and vocally supports the ACA (and hopes for expanded Medicaid) down to making sure the cardiac, hematologist, and rheumatologist referrals she gave me actually took my insurance, so I didn't have to deal with it.

I do have to mention that it would be nice to know exactly where the free/income-based county clinics were here in Texas. I was never able to find one. I was never able to even get dental work done because my blood pressure was too high and an arrhythmia compounded the issue. And I did not have the money for the emergency room visit all these dentists told me to make.

I blocked "Canadian" pharmacies from my email inbox last week, and that felt good. I am...really and truly... ALIVE.

I always hated getting my bp checked before I got onto meds, because I knew I'd get a stern lecture (and I probably deserved it). Since I got onto the meds--which I now take religiously--my bp is close to yours and even lower most of the time; even when my back pain is acting up .

I hope you get your dental work taken care of, too. It's soooo important!

The good thing is that the doctor realized my situation, had my old medical records that showed perfect compliance with meds and treatments before I lost my insurance... so she went easy on me.

I have always been able to pay for catastrophic health insurance (so that a sever illness wouldn't bankrupt my family) but it hasn't covered more than $500 worth of testing a year for quite a while. Last month a mammography, sonogram and cyst aspiration (which I couldn't have afforded last year) gave me a very early warning of a possible cancer recurrence. Prognosis...excellent.

I wouldn't be eligible for free anything until I was financially ruined so a free clinic would have been useless to me. I am sorry that folks who have these horrible Governors are suffering but it's the fault of the people of their state who vote against their own best interest and the people that they vote for.

I am not financially unstable, I just can't pay another mortgage payment for high-risk insurance. So happy to hear about your prognosis! That's excellent!

Texas area. Here is information about this one and click to find out about others.

In the following link, at the top it shows information for local clinics (one of the local clinics is below) and other Texas Affordable Clinics.

This federal clinic is located on the southwest side of Levelland, Texas in Hockley county. (Hockley County is the county on the west side of Lubbock County. Most big city-county hospitals, in Texas, have community clinics for the poor and those with low incomes. Any one can go there, paying based on their income.

I live in TX also, and electing Wendy is absolutely top priority. The alternatives are disastrous.

I'm also a disability attorney, and I have to refer people to free/income-based clinics and ways to pay for drugs or treatment all the time. Here are the links I use for anyone who needs these things (TX or elsewhere):

To find a free or income-based clinic anywhere in the US:
http://www.freemedicalsearch.org/

To get free meds (the tragedy is that doctors don't know or don't care to take the time to refer people to this site, and lots of lives could be saved by that one act!) if you're really financially screwed and for most of the programs have one really horrible-looking tax return:

And I am hoping against hope that Abbot pulls Clayton Williams and pisses off enough women and minorities here in Texas that he ends up losing.

I know it is a long shot but that is my hope.

Regardless, I think Wendy Davis presents the best chance we have had since Anne Richards to get elected.

Most of our relatives in Texas are diehard Republicans, although I've noticed a few cracks lately. Our dear, 86 year old aunt in El Paso is true blue and not afraid to say it. I love that woman.

Good for you doing the good work for change. I've donated a few bucks to Wendy myself! Texas needs her badly.

Texas wasn't quite as nutty then. I got to know and appreciate Jim Hightower and Molly Ivins (gone too soon,) and great Mexican food. Left for Colorado in 1984 and never regretted it for a second. With family there, we've been back many times, but my husband's family is about as far from Houston as you can get.. Lubbock and Midland/Odessa and El Paso.

I really want to see that smug smile wiped off his prissy face when he finally caves because he's getting shellacked in the polls.

I live next door in NM. The ACA kicked in too late to help me, I'd been uninsurable for nearly 30 years when Medicare finally kicked in. I also used Canadian pharmacies and supplemented them with the occasional day trip down to Juarez until that got too dangerous.
