On Monday morning, Rush Limbaugh decided to agree with one of his callers who argued that last weeks Hillary Clinton shoe-throwing incident was staged. Joining the shoe truthers as Talking Points Memos Sahil Kapur has dubbed them said hes inclined to believe the moment was staged, even though he has not even seen the video.
The callers theory was based on Clintons little girl reaction to something that she said should have made the former secretary of state feel more fear and anxiety. Limbaugh admitted to the woman that he hadnt seen the video only the still photo on The Drudge Report but based on that he agreed with his callers assessment.
I can totally relate to those who believe that everything the Clintons do is staged or choreographed, Limbaugh told is audience. But Im sorry, Im ill-equipped to comment, I havent seen it, he added, saying he hasnt cared enough to seek it out
Maybe its because, in my subconscious, I think it was staged, or set up, or whatever, he said. I dont know why anybody would be throwing a shoe at Hillary unless maybe its an attempt to make the Benghazi people look like nuts and lunatics and wackos.

(62,276 posts)Large venues like that do indeed have bats nesting in them so that was possibly the first thing she thought of. A bird would want out, bats would nest, stay there, and fly around occasionally. Her response was logical but it sounded silly.
The bright lights shining on her prevented her from seeing the source and you could hear people telling her what happened. She clearly didn't know or expect it. I don't think anyone could pull that act off. Especially Clinton, she has a lot of time struggling with image, she admits as much.

(46,416 posts)something sudden and unexpected happens, especially if we didn't really see what transpired very well.

(62,276 posts)They likely don't know what it's like to be up on a stage, you can't really see the audience that well. Takes focusing on them to see them (mentally turning off the stage lights). So yeah, she "reacted" about a quarter second after it passed, that's still pretty damn good for someone her age and in that situation. (And if anyone thinks age isn't a factor in response time I have plenty of scientific studies to relate, it is not an insult, it is a compliment.)
When Bush got a shoe thrown at him it was in a brightly lit room and no stage spotlights were on him... he probably would've gone down if he was on a stage, heh.
Also, hell, her second response "was that Cirque du Soleil?" was not that great either. If this was planned she would've figured it out long ahead of time and neither the "bat" or "Cirque du Soleil" comment would've worked. She finished it off with the "didn't know recycling (waste management? something like that) was so controversial" statement, which was finally the right way to approach it.
So one response out of three worked / made sense / sold. That's really makes me believe it was just some crazy person attacking Clinton as opposed to some well planned conspiracy.
