Special Prosecutor in Trayvon case says her team could bypass grand jury and file state charges

By Rene Lynch
March 27, 2012, 3:30 p.m.

<...>

Angela B. Corey, a veteran prosecutor, said she is well aware of the public's demands for answers in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in what has become a racially charged case triggering nationwide outrage.

"We stepped into this case Thursday night," Corey told The Times. "We're asking -- we're begging people -- just give us a chance."

In a sign of how feverishly her team is working on the case, Corey said her probe could possibly result in state charges that bypass the need for the Seminole County Grand Jury, which is slated to convene April 10 to hear the case.

"It's possible that we’ll just make a decision without the grand jury," she said.

as an adult for killing his 2 yr old brother and that she relies on prayer. Who is she praying to when she comes to a conclusion that trying a 12 yr old is a good idea? Her actions don't instill the greatest confidence.

as an adult- (I think that's absurd) I can't hold the fact that she says she prays against her, anymore than I'd hold someone meditating or jogging against them.

If anything she seems to be an agressive prosecutor. It doesn't seem like she'd dismiss the idea of indicting Zimmerman unless it was clearly an unwinnable case.

But I could be wrong. I'm no expert.

This prosecutor, Angela Corey, prosecuted and put a guy in jail that shot my father as well as a police officer.

I saw my father getting shot. I had nightmares for years. I know the man's name. I worried when he got out. I worried when he was "in."

He was shot dead on the day of his release. At the same mall were he shot my dad. Not for applying for a job, but for an armed robbery.

Let's cut this woman some slack, please.

She IS trying the 12 year old as an adult.

This kid comes from a totally disfunctional family and has been abused all of his life.

It a sad story that will not have a good ending.

Published police report says it was taken for evidence?

Do you believe people should be arrested and jailed before this is probable cause? That is what you are stating. That said, I believe these is ample probable cause and apparently so did the lead detective on the case.

I think that particular nugget came from an early report where someone asked the state official responsible for concealed carry permits in Florida if Zimmerman's had been revoked.

The person said that first, they couldn't comment one way or the other as to whether or not any particular person had a permit or the status of it, and second, when a person is *charged* with a crime their permit is suspended, and if convicted it is revoked. Until that point, the permit is still valid.

So in the re-telling, it seems to have morphed into, something long the lines of, "Zimmerman still has his gun." or "They didn't even take the gun for evidence."

Not the first thing in this case that's been repeated in an internet / media game of "I have a secret" until it's unintelligible.

involving their right to a speedy trial - and that arrests are often deferred to give
prosecutors sufficient time to build their case ?

Also according to the police report the police did take his gun from him when they handcuffed him
and placed him into custody.

Citing SYG was nonsense. However, we have two different State Attorneys who are not following the police recommendation to arrest Zimmerman for manslaughter.

There is still a lot of data being withheld, and we all want to see it and understand how and why things were done.

NO.

This is different.

But, George Zimmerman already played judge, trial, and jury when he went after Trayvon Martin.

The number of George Zimmerman apologists around here is sickening.

To say they need more time is just nonsense at this point.

The lead homicide investigator that wanted him arrested filed an affidavit that said he did not believe Zimmerman's account. Additional evidence is also being brought to the table.

If I were Zimmerman, I would be getting more than a little concerned.
