Florida prosecutor taps experts to review 911 calls in Trayvon Martin shooting
The Florida special prosecutor investigating the Trayvon Martin shooting is bringing in independent voice analysis experts to enhance the 911 tapes at the center of the case, according to law enforcement officials.
State investigators are focusing on the forensics of the case specifically the 911 calls in efforts to learn more about the actions of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed Martin, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation.
The voice analyst experts brought in by special prosecutor Angela B. Corey will be examining two potentially crucial aspects of the eight calls made to 911 : a possible racial epithet Zimmerman might have muttered while talking to a dispatcher minutes before shooting the unarmed 17-year-old, and the screams in the background of calls that residents made to police while the incident was unfolding.
In at least one call to police before officers arrived, loud screams can clearly be heard. Martins parents say the voice is their unarmed son yelling for help; a friend of Zimmermans has said the voice is Zimmerman screaming.
