Sean Hannity Inflames Brewing ‘Range War’ Between Feds, Militia Over Nevada Cattle Roundup

By Travis Gettys
Thursday, April 10, 2014 9:30 EDT

Sean Hannity promoted a stubborn Nevada rancher as a right-wing martyr Wednesday night on his Fox News program.

The conservative pundit hosted rancher Cliven Bundy, who has threatened a “range war” over the roundup of more than 900 of his cattle from federal lands.

Bundy stopped paying a token fee in 1993 required of ranchers who graze livestock on public lands after he refused to accept new land-use rules to protect the threatened desert tortoise.

He said his family’s history of land use – stretching back to 1877 – trumps federal government authority, and armed supporters have trickled into the area to set up a possible showdown with authorities.

“We need to be the barrier between the oppressed and the tyrants,” said Ryan Payne, a Montana militia member who coordinates with other such groups as part of Operation Mutual Aid. “Expect to see a band of soldiers.”

If this rancher's family has been deriving benefit from designated federal lands since 1877, then he knows this---as does everybody else in the American west who is involved in similar circumstances; there's no adverse possession claim available against the government. If he stopped paying the requisite fees in 1993, he should have lost his grazing rights in 1994. End of story---unless those trigger-happy militia types decide to take on the government, in which case I hope Sean Hannity gets in a whole shitload of trouble for fomenting violence against federal employees.

If you aren't paying "we the people" for grazing your privately owned cattle on our land, then get them the f-off our land!!!!!

Why is Hannity defending this guy? Isn't he one of the "takers" with his hand out?

How does he think that he has an inherent right to land he doesn't own? That is anathema to their conservative philosopy.

These 'public' lands would be better managed by privet investors.
Multinational corporations could sell grazing rights to the highest bidder.
They could Frac to their heart's content without worry of being sued by some municipality.
Hell, they could profit by cutting down the trees and profit by putting up a parking lot.

Naturally as good 'citizens' they would maintain some parks with public access.
At $25.00 per visit.

In case you missed the first one.

I've been watching all the videos of the rw "patriots" facing down and taunting the BLM officers from yesterday.

The situation is tense and could boil over quickly.

Oh wait, the TAKERS are welfare recipients in Orange County who surf all day living off disability fraud.

This guy is a True American Patriot(TM) keeping our burgers cheap, the law be damned.

I doubt Hannity has extended such sympathy to farmworkers lacking legal immigration status.
