Warning: This is a positive/negative thread intended to share an experience that might help others if they find themselves in the same situation. It is not a commentary on what I think of this administration, and it doesn't affect my (positive) outlook in general on the ACA.
I scheduled a regular BP/RA check for yesterday. I LOVE my new doctor. She is super-pro-ACA, a great communicator and actually had my records faxed immediately to the office. My blood pressure registered at 220/125 with a pulse of 140 and an EKG showed an arrhythmia. We had a "discussion" on her wanting me to go to the ER and me not wanting to go. But, I went.
The ER doctor was a typical ER doctor (of the kind I have found),"This looks okay! (BPafter a Klonopin at the Drs officewas 200/111)" "I think your doctor overreacted!" "These are just palpitations!" "Let's shoot you up with this and get you the heck out of here!" "But, I'm going to have you try this (50mg of this drug once a day instead of 100mg of this drug 2x a dayWTF?) and you go see the doctor I assigned on your discharge instructions!!!! Kay?! Kay! Try not to get so worried next time(wha-?)!!!!" Ummmmm...okay?
The issue with this part of the day is:
I have a doctor-the one who is listed on my insurance card
She sent me to the ER (this has to be done in order to be covered)
I am now concerned ER doc screwed up the potential billing of this (I mentioned this to the cashier and was blown off)
On the positive, not a penny out of my pocket which would not have happened 6 months ago.
I hemmed and hawed on the prescription and decided to fill it and see what happened.
I went to Walgreens after making sure they were part of Humana. That store was listed as accepting Humana (I typically go to HEB, but the pharm there was closed).
I handed the prescription and my card to the clerk.
2 minutes later,"We don't accept this insurance, but you can pay full price."
Me,"My insurance website says differently."
"Nope, we don't..."
Oh well, it's not a super huge deal with that medication because I wasn't all hep on taking something prescribed by an ER doc who appeared to be on some sort of quota/schedule. BUT, it is a huge deal is Walgreens is lying. As a side note, there is nothing to differentiate the card from other Humana cards, so I am not at all sure it was a pharmacy-based decision and not just a glitch. When I turned to leave, an older woman (70-ish) hissed at me,"Welfare Queen on Obamacare." One, the ACA was not brought up. Two, this "Queen" was dressed in sweatpants and a ponytail. Three, she was (I am sure) a Medicare recipient.
Which leads me to this: When you go to your doctor or any doctor and get a prescription, print out the page that shows what stores take your insurance and keep it with you. I have reported this to Humana, and this store is contracted to accept this insurance.

(17,621 posts)I would have hissed right back at her, "Better a welfare queen on Obamacare than a hateful old hag like you." People like that just make me
