Atlanta Braves torch the American Flag

Atlanta put some pyrotechnics on its big screen in center field, but neglected to remember that fireworks are not only pretty, but very hot, too. A spokesperson for the Braves confirmed to the local NBC affiliate that the mishap really did happen during the team's home opener Tuesday, adding that the flag is made of flame-retardant material so it didn't burn for too long.

The Cubbies did something unpleasant to a goat, and it brought them 70 years of bad luck. Seems like burning the Flag on opening night should be good for a couple hundred years of pennant purgatory.

which I rarely ever am...

Your post seems a little salacious. The Cubs didn't "do something unpleasant to a goat" although I wouldn't put it past them if a sheep had been involved.

The legend is that the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern attended the 1945 World Series (the last appearance in a World Series by the Cubs) and actually had a goat with him. When the guy was asked to leave, he supposedly cursed the Cubs.

Makes as much sense as anything else.

The White Sox had an ill-fated promotion to bring disco records to destroy after the first game of a doubleheader. They blew up a case of records and the fans took that as a sign to join in.

The fans rushed the field and it took forever to restore order. The field was so torn up they had to forfeit the 2nd game.

EPIC FAIL!
