google-analytics does nothing useful for you, the browser user.

Whether you use linux or windows, you've likely got a 'hosts' file hanging around somewhere, into which you can insert a line that will tell your computer not to bother trying to connect to a given website - that your computer actually 'is' that website.

So, for instance, under linux, I go edit the file /etc/hosts and add a line that says

127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com

to tell my machine that it doesn't need to do a domain name search to locate the ip address of that website, that it's 127.0.0.1 (which is the default to tell your computer 'you're just looking for yourself')

Under windows, you'll probably have to change your settings to make the machine let you see the 'hidden' system files and folders, then run a search to find the 'Host' or 'hosts' file into which you'll have to add a similar line.

Then, every time a webpage says 'hey, go run a script from google-analytics.com', your machine will look for that script on your own machine, not find it, and skip on to the next part of the webpage.

Simply disallow google-analytics and the script won't run.
