The fight set Twitter, YouTube and Instagram aflame with photos and videos of the violence.
The teams were tied, 3-3, in the second period when the benches-clearing brawl erupted. NYPD eventually won, 8-5, breaking FDNY's five-year winning streak.

(30,481 posts)There have been fights, but not all that many. Second, there is a clear divider between fan and athlete in hockey, not so in basketball. Overall, hockey is a much more brutal sport than basketball. No way to have the level of violence that there is in hockey without fights. There are many reasons on top of that.

Fighting in hockey is common, the NHL will penalize those involved or sanction the whole team, so I can see where you're coming from.
Maybe all the players involved should've been fined and reprimanded.
Take it from me when I say there's always been an intense rivalry between cops and firefighters.
