Indiana motel has Dept. of Corrections contract to house sex offenders

Source: WTHI-TV

We have new details involving a local motel where a registered sex offender was arrested.

Police took him into custody following an alleged incident where he lured a 5 year old girl into the room where he was living. As we reported Wednesday, Terre Haute Police say Timothy Blazier was living at the Econo Lodge fresh off his prison sentence.

... News 10 learned Blazier is not the only registered sex offender staying at this motel. According to the Indiana Sex Offender Registry, there are currently 13 registered sex offenders living here at the Econo Lodge. Eight of those sex offenders are listed as sexual violent predators.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for tracking all sex offenders in the county. Chief Deputy Clark Cottom told us the Econo Lodge has an agreement with the state department of corrections to house sex offenders coming off prison sentences.

Plenty can though.

As a resident of Indiana, I know DOC is a total shitshow when it comes to dealing with sex offenders. The SVP label has been rendered meaningless thanks to DOC's habit of utterly arbitrary labeling, and the federal court slapped Indiana hard over ex post facto listings on the registry.

It's an utter mess here.

When they're limited on where they can live, because of distance to schools, daycare, etc., you're going to see them clustered in areas.

You'd think the hotel would have a sign stating that there's sex offenders on property though.

Isn't there a town in FL that makes them live under a bridge?
