It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to see the character assassination that is currently going on with Trayvon Martin.
Trayvon Martin didn't do anything different than what many young kids his age do. So he got in trouble every now and then. So he used the word "nigga" as part of his Twitter handle. WHO CARES. None of what has been coming out in the media over the past few days is relevant in any sense whatsoever. It doesn't change the fact that he was minding his own business, unarmed, and was shot by an armed overzealous racist vigilante.
What is going on now is nothing less than a posthumous lynching, stereotyping young Trayvon as a scary black thug, as if somehow that would excuse Zimmerman's actions.

(6,539 posts)Of course he isn't and neither is Sarah Fluke. The point is, that the conservatives have no argument in favor of this so they ALWAYS attack the victim. The GOP and those who support it effectively dennounce any "christian" values that they ever had.
Who does this? The GOP is doing satan's work on earth.

(8,556 posts)It's a 24 hour cycle and this is a hot story. There's a always a hunger for more, more, more. When you learn as much relevant stuff as possible, interests passes to the irrelevant. This happens all the time with big stories. From the media POV, they have be kept alive with new information.
A lot of stuff has come out about Zimmerman too and not all of it relevant. Some of it is, but I don't think the ethnic background of his parents, where he works, or where he went to school really matters much. But it's out there anyway because people want to know.
So it's inevitable that such info will come out about Trayvon too. That's how this media machine works, for better or worse.

(46,114 posts)An African-American man was accosted by undercover narcs trying to make a sale. Dorismond refused and resisted and the cops shot him to death. Giuliani released a sealed juvenile court record of Dorismond as if to prove the victim wasn't a "choir boy" and to discredit him as deserving to be shot like a criminal.
----
Much of the controversy over the Dorismond shooting revolved around then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani who was then in the midst of an abortive United States Senate campaign. His release of Dorismond's sealed juvenile delinquency record immediately after the shooting raised the ire of the African-American community as well as critics of the Mayor. The Mayor's office defended the release because the right to privacy does not survive an individuals death.[3][5] Giuliani also pointed out that he only wanted to show that Dorismond was "no altar boy."[6] In fact, Dorismond had attended the same Catholic school as Giuliani and had been an altar boy.[7][dead link] Giuliani's actions became a hot-button issue in his Senate campaign against Hillary Clinton and cost him several points in the polls.[8]

(27,711 posts)...the mods would be all over this shit. Basically, if it's "on-topic" and a jury won't take care of it we can't shut it down. Basically, six anonymous jurors are running the show
