(255 posts)he definitely isn't dumb or stupid. I remember a long time ago a guy that couldn't pronounce "nuclear". That's pretty basic stuff right there!

(18,636 posts)It wasn't long ago that I bought an old Carter/Mondale campaign button at an antique shop. The woman at the counter made some reference about how stupid he was/is. She rolled her eyes when I told her he studied nuclear physics after the war at graduate school, and was hand picked by Admiral Rickover to work in the fledgling nuclear submarine program when the Nautilus was still shiny new.
Though there certainly is a factor with Obama that appeals to ignorant racists about black stereotypes, the GOP sets their alarm clocks every night to get up early and pound home the message that democrats are spineless, clueless, idiots. No republican has ever said: "Sure Bill Clinton is a smart man, but....". "Clintoon" was one example of how little they thought of his intellect.
Having said that, the GOP does indeed openly play up Obama's race to rally assholes behind their ignoble cause. His heritage is kind of a bonus for them, and years from now I may be buying an old "Yes We Can" button, and.....
Thanx for posting.

(40 posts)A lot of people call Bush 2.0 an idiot yet he was a Officer and fighter pilot. He may not be a rocket surgeon but he was no slouch.

(115,677 posts)In 2000, the Boston Globe examined a period from May 1972 to May 1973 and found no record that Bush performed any Guard duties, either in Alabama or Houston, although he was still enlisted.
According to military records obtained by The Washington Post, Bush first requested and received permission in May 1972 to be transferred to the Alabama National Guard so he could work on a U.S. Senate campaign. After he was in Alabama, he received notice from the Guard personnel center that he was "ineligible" for the Air Reserve Squadron he requested.
In August 1972, Bush was suspended from flying because he failed to complete an annual medical exam. A month later, Bush requested to be assigned to a different unit in Alabama and was approved. Although he was required to attend periodic drills in Alabama, there is no official record in his file that he did.

(3,426 posts)Nixon believed the opportunity was there in Alabama for a republican win.Complicated stuff.
Clearly a Bush could be trusted to do the assignment for the commander and chief. Eyes/ears and hands. Nixon liked to get his hands down into it ,even more-so where the risk was greater.
Anyway's, it seems some of those republicans are feeling discomfort about the doings here on DU !
I believe they have told the dogs to release the flees on us ! We are under attack !

(2,157 posts)you have the audacity to try to validate the notion that its acceptable to call OUR PRESIDENT dumb while defending George W Bush as 'a officer and fighter pilot', which is bullshit in itself, also in a sense your right in your claim that Bush was no slouch, he did alot to fuck our country up here at home and abroad...

(40 posts)I think to insult President Obama or Former President Bush intelligence is ignorant. That being said I guess I showed a bit of my own ignorance, I'm only 23 so I didnt have much reason to care about W. Just here trying to broaden my horizons, thanks for the warm welcom y'all.

Never completed his National Guard duty wher he chose to be trained to fly a plane he knew was not being used in Vietnam.Joined the Guard to avoid Vietnam and chooses obsolete aircraft to make his chances of seeing combat zero percent. Slouch is too polite a term for him.

(6,440 posts)In what passes for their imagination, Obama was just plucked off the street and given all these degrees and jobs because he was black. There's no way a mere negro could have actually earned that position.

(13,485 posts)on the Internet it's staggering the amount of disinformation that has accumulated. Every side tries to out pummel the other with stupid answers so reality in the matter is fleeting. Some time back there were some university sources which made a lot of sense compared to my own studies. They did put George Jr. as one of the 3 lowest IQ presidents when comparing his personal communications with actual scholastic scores. Presidents before there were aptitude tests were scored on their communication skills from their own texts as well as scholars of their time who reported on their observations. This is rough but it's a logical assessment that seems fair enough and coincides with my own study of history... take it with a grain, but it makes sense to me.
Most intelligent presidents IQ 140 to 170, top down:
John Quincy Adams (very little argument he had the highest intelligence of all)
James Madison (? I don't know why)
Abraham Lincoln (arguably the second most intelligent but 3rd in the studies)
Theodore Roosevelt (arguably the most intelligent but 4th in the studies, lower in others)
Thomas Jefferson
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (sometimes placed higher)
George Washington (a lot of different placements in studies but definitely in the top 7)
Least Intelligent presidents below 125 (no certain order):
Andrew Johnson
Millard Filmore
Chester Arthur
George Bush Jr. (usually last or tied for last)
The rest are scattered in the middle ranging between 125 to 140 and all are supposedly based on today's scale and % of population.

(3,534 posts)Sorry, I still don't get the relationship between "used car salesman" and racism. When I think "used car salesman" I usually think of some untrustworthy white guy with "Come down to Big Al's" type of cheap commercials. Where is the racism?

(10,745 posts)Though yeah, I agree, it's hard to see the racism in that; it's been part of political parlance for years.

(328 posts)... and its easy to tell the charity students from the others. By the second assignment I could tell which was which.
When Havud picks a charity student, they can skim the cream off the top. The very, very best of those who didn't have enough sense to be born into a family with money.
On the other hand, admission criteria can be quite lax.... if Daddy can pay the bills outright. Like Mitt, perhaps?

(32,723 posts)The message there is that he's a total fraud. He's just mouthing words in his speeches written for him by a white man.
They do that because that's what THEY did with Dubya.
Ever watch Dubya give a speech on paper? He'd turn the pages every ten words. It was more like flash cards. Some were instructions to wait for applause.
