(5,562 posts)He's got a new bill that he calls the "Fair Elections Act". You know anytime they call a bill "fair" that they are out to screw you.

"Mayrand told reporters he is concerned the bill, the Fair Elections Act, prevents him from adequately communicating with Canadians, limits citizens' ability to vote and may hamper investigations into major election breaches."
Canada has no term limits, and the Con government is working on voter suppression tactics. Harper is acting like a Republican Governor of a Southern State only it involves a whole country.

(30,947 posts)here in Georgia next week. There is a long list of required ID you must have. For instance, I have been divorced for 50 years, and they want a marriage license. I destroyed it after the divorce. I never remarried. My ex-husband was married twice after our divorce. And he died 10 years ago. Then on the list is a requirement for a death certificate, which his last wife has.
Well, I am taking every other document on that list, including tax records, past pay stubs, all utility bills, cable and phone bills and let them wade through it. I also have two birth certificates. I could not locate my original certificate and sent for a copy and after that I found the original. So they can see I am not an alien, as I was born in Philadelphia, PA.
Why isn't your current license that will expire enough to renew your license? And why would a woman's license renewal be more cumbersome than a man's?

(60,010 posts)they wanted a picture ID.
I used my driver's license.
That was it.
However...when I moved back here to Ala, in 2005, after being gone for 6 years, the new BushWa law was in effect.
So of course I had to get an Ala. license.
I had had a license here since 1980's, and had no trouble getting another one this time.
but Mr. Dixie, who hails from the West Coast, had to provide birth certificate.
the stupid part is this: my past license in Ala. apparently made me terrorist free,
while he needed a birth certifcate despite having tons of other id with him.
It ain't about terrorism.....it has never been about terrorism.

(5,754 posts)I needed my passport to get plates for my car in Georgia. I had to have a Georgia driver's license because I moved from another state, and I had to show a passport to get one. I also brought a birth certificate, but the name on it is different from my current legal name. My advice to women living in red states is never change your name if you marry. It makes your life very difficult to do that. Pass that word around.
